5 Fantastic Four Villains Who Are Legends (& 5 Who Are Jokes)

Over the ages, Marvel's first family, the Fantastic Four, has always been a spotlight for fans. Beyond the dynamic, the team is known for having some truly iconic and powerful villains in their rogue's gallery.

Yet, among all those classic and respected villains, there is plenty that is less so. For every big-name bad, there's always the one who's not as menacing. They have a legacy to them, a name attached to the Fantastic Four, but that doesn't mean they're automatically a legendary villain. Quite often, they are likely a walking joke for the fans to laugh at.

10 Legend: Doctor Doom

Out of the Fantastic Four villains, there are none who command a force like that of Victor Von Doom. Although the name's a bit on the nose, after being shamed by Reed Richards, Doom gained mystical powers and the title of the heinous Doctor Doom.

Doctor Doom is one of Marvel's most complex and intriguing foes, one fans hope to see in phase four and hopefully, look comic accurate. With magical powers, genius intellect that rivals Mr. Fantastic himself, Doom's perchance for being the lesser of two evils for the first family makes him a legendary rival.

9 Joke: Puppet Master

Now, some of the villains considered jokes are actually somewhat terrifying in their nature. Anyone who dresses like a doll and has the ability to control anyone with dolls like the Puppet Master is an utterly horrific thought... if only he made a dent.

Like most villains, the Puppet Master's plots aren't very inventive. Once, he dressed his blind daughter up as Sue Storm with a blonde wig to infiltrate the Fantastic Four. All that did was lead to the wedding of Alicia Masters and Ben Grimm and made the Puppet Master a terrible in-law

8 Legend: Annihilus

Most of the time, supervillains are usually just men dressed up in ridiculous costumes. They don't strike fear into the hearts of heroes. With someone like Annihilus, ruler of the Negative Zone, the look is there for the alien tyrant.

Absolutely terrifying and exhibiting massive powers when in the Negative Zone, Annihilus has proven himself as a nasty foe over the years, even dying and coming back as a demonic child. Annihilus has made himself a cosmic threat for both the Fantastic Four and other heroes over the years.

7 Joke: Dragon Man

Given the fact that the Fan4 comics have been around for decades, villains and heroes are always bound to switch sides as the years go on. Dragon Man, an artificial android, is one villain who was redeemed and switched to the role of hero, maybe for the better.

As a villain, Dragon Man didn't leave much of an impact. The villain's usually been used as a servant or sidekick to other plots and never did much damage to any of the Marvel U, making a better Future Foundation member than a villain.

6 Legend: Super Skrull

On their own, the Fantastic four are powerful heroes. With the powers of invisibility, fire, rock-like, and elastic-like skin, the team is powerful alone. Together, however, they'd be unstoppable and in the hands of someone like the Super Skrull, that's never good.

Hailing from a world destroyed by the devourer of worlds, Kl'rt was a Skrull given the combined abilities of the Fantastic Four and sent to destroy them. Although now an on-and-off hero for the Skrull Empire, Super Skrull was quite the foe for the Fantastic Four.

5 Joke: Diablo

Diablo, the alchemist villain, has quite the backstory. Selling his soul to Mephisto to live forever, making a pact with vampires, and being discovered by the Fantastic Four is one hell of a villain origin story that ended up not really going anywhere.

Sure, Diablo's an interesting villain. Yet when your best abilities are chugging magical potions that give you limited time, and having one of the best backstories that's really the only development one gets, there's not really a whole lot to work with or be amazed by.

4 Legend: The Maker

A hero's worst villain can sometimes be themselves. Although the world of 1610, known as the Ultimate universe, had its faults, one of the things it pulled off along with Miles Morales Spider-Man was the Maker, the Ultimate universe's Reed Richards.

Beginning as Mr. Fantastic, Richards went insane for numerous reasons, eventually becoming the villainous mastermind known as the Maker. Starting a cult, concocting end of the world schemes, and going toe-to-toe with Earth 616's Mr. Fantastic, The Maker is a dark reflection fans can't get enough of.

3 Joke: Red Ghost

Supergenius is one thing. How one uses those powers is another. Ivan Kragoff was a Russian super genius who gained the ability to become intangible and developed an army of super apes to take on the Fantastic Four which is where the originality ends.

From his powers being somewhat of a carbon copy of Sue's and with the only real interesting tidbit being an army of super apes, Red Ghost's most interesting exploits pale in comparison to how simple and bland the master villain really is.

2 Legend: Galactus

Not every villain from the Fantastic Four's rogues gallery was going to make the cut, unfortunately. Some, like Kang or Psycho-Man, do deserve an honorable mention for being legends. But truth is, all villains pale in comparison to Galactus.

Originally an explorer of the planet Taa, Galactus became the Devourer of Worlds after his universe died. His appetite is unmatched and can only be satiated by whole planets. Equipped with a bundle of Heralds, Galactus has changed and evolved, like Von Doom, into a complex and amazing antagonist.

1 Joke: Mole Man

Truthfully, seeing Mole Man as the Fantastic Four's first villain for the upcoming MCU film would be pretty faithful to the comics. After all, he was their first foe, a former scientist who gains control over a subterranean race he uses to his advantage.

Yet, for all his history and connections, Mole Man is just a guy controlling yellow-skinned creatures. He's an unfortunate walking joke, one comics have tried to improve upon but not very well. Perhaps Hollywood could finally do the Mole Man some justice.
