Snowpiercer: The Main Characters Ranked By Intelligence

The Snowpiercer train is filled with intelligence, after all, to make a train like that you have to have some pretty smart people. But who's capable of outsmarting who?

One of the best things about the Snowpiercer TV show is the rivalry. There are consistent rivalries between the likes of Melanie and Josie in season 1 and Mr. Wilford and Andre in season 2. Nevertheless, they all have to use their wits rather than their strength to outsmart the opponent to bring order to the train in their own way.

This makes for some tense but exciting watching as fans see incredibly smart people battle to get control over an already falling apart train. However, some people weren't put on the train for their smarts, and it undeniably shows at certain points. Nevertheless, it's a perfect way to predict who's going to outsmart who as season 2 comes to a close.

10 Miss Audrey

Miss Audrey is still extremely clever in her ability to manipulate people's minds, namely poor Kevin. However, it's the choices she's made in recent episodes that have made fans really question her mindset.

Ultimately, both fans and those on Snowpiercer think that her idea to go over to Big Alice was a stupid one. It's never easy to understand what people do for love, but after what Mr. Wilford did to her it just feels ridiculous! She's doomed herself and those on Snowpiercer to life under a dictatorship rather than allowing people to be free. If Miss Audrey hadn't gone over, perhaps Mr. Wilford wouldn't have the train.

9 Zarah Ferami

Zarah is a very smart woman who has been placed into a life she never wanted. She looks out for herself, Layton, and now her unborn child and will do anything to keep them safe. She was also smart enough to see the effect killing Josie would have on the rest of her life, something many other members of the train fail to see.

However, when it comes to problems, she's rarely the one to solve them. Her biggest decision was to join hospitality to keep an eye on Ruth yet it just hasn't really progressed. While it doesn't make her stupid, it does mean that she rarely uses her intelligence to her advantage, preferring to go with the flow instead.

8 Ruth Wardell

Ruth is pretty similar to Zarah in the sense that she rarely uses her intelligence to actually make a change. The poor woman seems to constantly be uninformed which does make her come across as a little clueless. However, she is still pretty smart, just hasn't had the chance to show it.

Ultimately, Ruth really follows her heart rather than her intelligence and seems really torn with her love for Mr. Wilford and her loyalty to the train. Fans love her but she just doesn't get to really show how smart she actually is.

7 Bess Till

Throughout season 1 Andre Layton served as the train detective and did a pretty good job, probably because he was a detective before the world froze over. So it just made sense to appoint Bess as the new detective after Layton became the leader, however, despite her having been a policewoman, she just doesn't seem to be doing as good of a job.

She took a long time to figure it out and only really found out after a ton of people got murdered, and even then she was lost! She's still a very smart woman and has ultimately proved it on more than one occasion but she really seems to be more brawn than brain at times.

6 Josie Wells

Poor Josie had a pretty tough time in season 1 and really seems to be struggling with understanding what's happened in season 2. However, it was her idea to become a spy and it certainly helped the cause for a while!

The one problem is that she really feels lost now, she's wandering around Big Alice aimlessly and really seems to be just confused. She's a very smart woman but many fans feel she's lost her way and is just wandering around now.

5 Andre Layton

Initially, many viewers and many of the people on the train thought that Layton was the best man to be the leader. He proved himself as the detective and then kept on going up as the leader. Layton is a very very smart man who is always thinking ahead, but sometimes he just gets outsmarted by the engineers and Mr. Wilford himself.

While Layton is undeniably intelligent, he is by no means the smartest and really relies on the guidance of Melanie to run the train, exactly why it all fell apart when she left.

4 Bennett Knox

As an engineer, Bennett has to be smart, and he certainly is. He understands the engine and also understands the goings-on with the train itself making him a fantastic asset for Snowpiercer. Unlike Javi, Bennett is good with people and good with machinery, something that really makes you smarter in the situation they find themselves in.

Ultimately, Bennett Knox is a kind, smart and talented man who uses his knowledge of the engine to really take over as head engineer after Melanie leaves, something that just strengthens his intelligence as well as his status.

3 Mr. Wilford

Mr. Wilford is just ridiculously smart. He is clued up and in touch with the workings of the engine, after all, he did build and help design the thing. He's also extremely manipulative and has the skill and smarts to outsmart an entire train and Alex who practically lives in his pocket!

Ultimately, the reason he managed to get where fans find him now isn't because of Icy Bob or the army behind him, it's because of his incredibly smart mind. If he used that for good, who knows how well they'd all be doing.

2 Melanie Cavill

Where Mr. Wilford probably came up with the idea for the 'immortal engine', Melanie ultimately made it what it is today. She understands if a bolt is loose just by feeling the front of the train! Melanie is easily the smartest person on Snowpiercer, and now she's gone, everyone can see how downhill it's all gone.

Ultimately, Melanie is an incredible scientist, engineer, and a good leader (now she's working with Layton) which just makes her seem super smart and really cool, calm, and collected even in times of stress. She always has a plan.

1 The Headwoods

While Melanie is undeniably a genius, the Headwoods just take the cake for intelligence. Throughout season 1 and the beginning of season 2, Melaine and Mr. Wilford were fighting for the top spot when it came to intelligence, but when fans saw the work the Headwoods had achieved to cure frostbite, it's almost impossible to not be impressed.

In just a few short weeks they've managed to take Josie from an unidentifiable woman to almost looking like herself without a proper lab or a handful of scientists. Between the two of them, they've created a way to heal frostbite and make the victim almost immune to the freezing temperature. The people from Snowpiercer would be lying if they said they weren't impressed.
