Arthur & Mera Battle Sea Monsters in New Aquaman Clip

A new clip from Aquaman has surfaced online, which features Arthur and Mera battling an army of sea monsters. Aquaman will stand as the sixth movie in DC Films' growing DCEU, as well as Jason Momoa's third time playing the character Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman. Besides Momoa, the cast has filled out with big names such as Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, and Patrick Wilson. The film will take place after the events of Justice Leagueand focus on Arthur claiming the throne in Atlantis, while preventing a war between his home and the surface world.

While the film has a talented cast, the director has also shown that he has what it takes to direct a Hollywood blockbuster. James Wan started off his career in Hollywood by directing an array of horror movies, but also directed Furious 7 in 2015. That same year Warner Bros. chose Wan to direct Aquaman, which would be his biggest movie to date. Given his extensive background in horror, many were wondering if Aquaman would be one of the rare examples of a horror superhero movie. While the trailers don't seem that frightening, this new clip featuring sea monsters is certainly reminiscent of one of Wan's horror movies.

This new clip posted on YouTube by NowCentric shows Arthur and Mera on a boat during a big storm. As Mera turns around, a terrifying sea monster can be seen standing on the side of the ship, as lightning cracks in the background. Mera explains that the monsters are called The Trench, before Arthur lights a flare and they jump into the water. The full clip can be seen below.

The Trench definitely pose a threat for Aquaman, but they aren't the main villain of the film. Aquaman will feature two villains; King Orm and Black Manta. While Black Manta is usually considered Aquaman's arch-nemesis, Wan has revealed that King Orm is the main villain of the next DCEU film. That being said, The Trench will still be a formidable adversary since they seem to be strong in numbers.

It's no secret that Warner Bros. has had some trouble getting their superhero universe off the ground. While Aquaman was projected to have the worst opening weekend of Warner Bros. superhero franchise, early reviews of Aquaman have been mainly positive. The film's tone was inspired by legendary filmmakers such as Tim Burton, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas, but based on the above clip, Wan seems to have found a way to implement a bit of horror into the film as well.
