There is a lot of choice when it comes to determining the best tracks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With 23 movies and counting, spanning all sorts of genres and time periods, the range in these soundtracks is enough to make multiple albums.
There are, however, some absolute classics and some tracks that will remind you of the film as soon as you hear them. Here are 10 of the best MCU soundtracks and songs:
10 Guardians Of The Galaxy (Redbone - Come And Get Your Love)
One of the opening scenes in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie is Peter Quill dancing around a distant planet searching for an Infinity Stone. There's a cassette player playing some classics from Earth through some headphones he was left when his mother died.
A fun fact about this scene is that it comes back in Avengers: Endgame, when they travel back in time to get one of the Infinity Stones.
9 Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Blue Sky)
Again, the opening scene of this Guardians of the Galaxy sequel aims to stay in the minds of fans long after the film finishes, and this is exactly what it does.
Mr. Blue Sky is a feel-good classic from the 70s that people from every generation love to hear, and the fact that the song is playing over the top of the Guardians battling some huge space monster makes it even better.
8 Thor: Ragnarok (Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song)
Thor: Ragnarok is one the most unique of the 23 MCU films. Infinity Saga director, Taika Waititi, went completely out of the box with the third Thor installment and incorporated some scenes that were very 'extra'.
One of these was a final battle shot of Thor raining down on his wicked sister Hella's army whilst Immigrant Song is playing, a truly iconic MCU moment and probably Thor's greatest.
7 Iron Man (AC/DC - Back In Black)
The first-ever movie in the MCU introduces us to multi-billionaire Tony Stark (soon to be Iron Man) on a weapons testing PR stunt out in the Middle East. He still manages to carry on with his rich lifestyle over there, and the film opens with him in the back of a military vehicle sipping a single-malt scotch on the rocks.
The track makes an appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home too, when Peter Parker goes full Iron Man mode and starts designing his own suit.
6 Captain Marvel (No Doubt - Just A Girl)
This is undoubtedly the best song on the Captain Marvel soundtrack. The 90s-based movie brings back all sorts of references to that era, with Easter eggs that even link back to Pulp Fiction.
Just A Girl can be heard when Carol Danvers is fighting the Kree army towards the end of the film. It's iconic because she's in space and everything is extremely advanced, yet she has a 90s pop classic playing throughout.
5 Avengers: Endgame (It's Been A Long, Long Time)
Captain America has had to deal with a lot since his love Peggy Carter was taken away from him in Captain America: The First Avenger when Cap was frozen until 2012.
In the final sequences of Avengers: Endgame, Cap gets to return back to 1940s America and be with Peggy once more. They share a dance whilst the wartime hit 'It's Been a Long, Long Time' is playing, this is Captain America's final scene as we know him and was a perfect way to round off his story.
4 Iron Man (AC/DC - Shoot To Thrill)
By this point, it's pretty obvious that AC/DC are big Iron Man fans. They pretty much used the film as a platform to release all their classics again with even better music videos.
Shoot To Thrill gets played whilst Iron Man is soaring through the skies with his swanky new suit that he manufactures for himself after the suit he made when he was held captive and had to create the Mark 1 Iron Man suit himself.
3 Guardians Of The Galaxy (Blue Swede - Hooked On A Feeling)
When the Guardians get captured in the first movie, they are put into some kind of mega-prison planet full of the worst criminals in the entire galaxy.
Their mugshot scene when they are entering the prison has Hooked on a Feeling playing over the top of it, and even though it's a song from the 60s which younger Marvel fans won't be familiar with, it still resonates with a lot of people as an all-time great and fits in wonderfully with this scene.
2 Captain America: The First Avenger (Star Spangled Man)
A song that was composed just for the movie, Star Spangled Man will remind you of a typical wartime track from the 1940s that aimed to raise the spirits of soldiers before they got sent off to war.
In this scene, Captain America isn't exactly using his powers for good and is more of a stage performer to the soldiers whilst this song plays, a song which lyrics patronize the hero.
1 Avengers: Endgame (Alan Silvestri - Main On End)
This track can be heard throughout all the Avengers movies and has become a theme tune in some ways. Most people will still get goosebumps when they hear the Endgame produced version of it, as it's played at the most iconic of moments in the film.
Hopefully, if the Avengers are to continue in the coming years, this track will carry on.
