Scott Snyder's New Comic, Clear, is a Virtual Reality Murder Mystery

Warning: contains a preview for Clear #2 with explicit language!

Screen Rant is pleased to share a look at the newest issue of Clear, a Comixology Original series written by Scott Snyder. This sci-fi mystery takes place in a dystopian future. The first issue introduced the protagonist of the story and now, his backstory is being revealed.

Clear is a Comixology Original series with the creative team of Scott Snyder, Francis Manapul, and Andworld Design, in a partnership with Dark Horse Comics. It is one of eight titles that Snyder announced to be upcoming for the comic service. The first issue was released in October, introducing readers to Sam Dunes - a detective who can be hired by clients curious about the purchases of people close to them - though an investigation of more sinister activities lies ahead.

The world of Clear is a technological wasteland in which reality has become bland as the world's inhabitants "veil" their surroundings with virtual reality. The first issue established the series' setting and introduced a very personal mystery for Detective Dunes to solve. A sneak peek at the next issue reveals a glimpse at how the world used to be and what lead to the downfall of reality. Check out the exclusive preview of Snyder, Manapul, and Andworld Design’s new series, Clear #2, here:

This preview reveals the Red War, which was mentioned in the previous issue. The Red War has been revealed to be a very brief war that no one seems to have truly won. It was ended by the backfiring of attacks, one of which left Sam Dunes in a hospital. The preview also presents the initial meeting of the future detective with his future estranged wife - who may have been murdered. This sneak peek does not reveal any more glimpses of the futuristic dystopian world that Detective Dunes lives within, but it does provide context for how the world was shaped by technology and why Dunes is connected to Kendra McKale.

Detective Dunes is proving to have a traumatic past that influences his desire to live without veils – to live “clear” and see the world the way it is. This series is still setting up a lot of crucial elements, but it has created an intriguing setup that enters the discourse about virtual reality and the impact it could have on humanity. The world in this Comixology Original reflects society's desire for escapism - provided at varying costs and fueling the majority of the economy. Clear hasn’t had many issues, yet it is successfully building a believable future full of disappointment and a lack of attachment to reality and community. Readers can continue to explore the world established by Clear #2 and see the next stages of the mystery when the issue releases on November 16.
