Netflix Says Carole Baskin Has No Claim In Tiger King 2 Lawsuit

Netflix says Carole Baskin has no claim in her lawsuit against Tiger King season 2. Released in 2020 on Netflix, the Tiger King docuseries took the streaming service world by storm and became an instant success. Centering on Joe Exotic and a group of his zoo employees, enemies, and fellow conspirators, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness explores the complex work of the big cat breeding business. Featuring interviews with Exotic and the owner of Big Cat Rescue, Baskin, Tiger King highlights the perdurable rivalry between the two.

Following Tiger King's debut, interviewees from the docuseries, mainly Baskin, became popular topics in pop culture. After Tiger King was released, significant developments in the lives of the featured players occurred, including Exotic claiming he's been diagnosed with cancer. Recently, Netflix revealed that the second installment of Tiger King was on the horizon and released the trailer for Tiger King season 2. Shortly after the trailer dropped, Baskin filed a lawsuit against Netflix for using her footage in Tiger King 2. Baskin claimed that using her appearance in the second season was a breach of contract.

Per People, Netflix responds to Baskin's lawsuit against Tiger King season 2 and says she has no claim at all. Netflix and production company Royal Goode Production state that Baskin and her husband, Howard, signed appearance and location releases in 2019, which permit Netflix to use their footage in future projects. According to court documents, Netflix claims an additional waiver for the use of Baskin's footage in Tiger King season 2 wasn't required. Netflix's court documents state, "Plaintiffs have no claim at all, much less one that can evade Defendants' First Amendment."

Netflix's response in court serves as another strike against Baskin, as it was recently revealed that her request for a temporary restraining order against Netflix and Royal Goode Production was denied. For now, it appears Baskin's legal action plan against the streaming service has been met with resistance, and Netflix continues to move forward with the release of Tiger King 2 on November 17. At this time, it remains to be seen how the legal battle between Baskin and Netflix will play out.

Of course, Baskin has been vocal about her distaste, distrust, and disdain with the creative team behind Tiger King, and she feels vastly misrepresented in the docuseries. Recently, Baskin offered a scathing review of Tiger King and made it clear she wants no involvement in the saga's next chapter. However, despite her objections, it appears Baskin's footage will continue to be used in Tiger King 2. For now, viewers will have to tune in on November 17 to see Baskin's story unfold in Tiger King season 2.
