Animal Crossing 2.0: Best Villagers To Find At Brewster's Roost

Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently received its 2.0 update, introducing Brewster’s Roost to player islands, but the coffee shop is more than just another store and offers the opportunity to encounter several unique Animal Crossing characters. The free update and Happy Home Paradise DLC lets players meet new NPCs and interact with existing characters in more casual ways. Visiting Brewster’s Roost is one method to interact with beloved Villagers and characters otherwise unavailable to socialize with. However, just like coffee shop visits in real life, there are some characters whose conversations and visits are more exciting than others.

Animal Crossing’s 2.0 update completely changed the way players enjoy Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Despite Nintendo’s pledge to cease further development on the game, the sheer amount of content brings many long-term goals for players to enjoy over the next few months. Cooking, farming, Brewster’s Roost, Harvey’s Island, and more have been implemented as new activities for players to experience. New Villagers and other NPCs have also joined the cast, opening the opportunity for new stories and relationships to grow.

Like most coffee shops, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Brewster’s Roost is a place of relaxation. Villagers can often be found resting at the bar with their drinks and engaging in entertaining interactions. However, the tables located around Brewster’s Roost are also home to traveling and stationary NPCs. These characters can be summoned with the amiibo phone located in the corner or appear at random. Conversations with essential NPCs can lead to discovering more Animal Crossing lore, character backstories, and introducing new characters altogether, making Brewster’s Roost one of the most enriching content additions in recent Animal Crossing history.

While the concept of celebrities is strange in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, K.K Slider is known by nearly all in-game characters. K.K. Slider always maintained a level of importance within Animal Crossing’s lore, being one of the first characters players encounter in the GameCube Animal Crossing game. His calming nature and artistic talents give Animal Crossing’s world a charming nuance that every simulation game needs. K.K. Slider informs players that Brewster’s Roost used to have a small stage, where his career began. Slider’s connection with Brewster is charming, as he describes the shy bird as “taking care of [him]” for years.

Player characters primarily interact with NPCs and Villagers while they’re ‘on the clock,’ essentially preventing any personal conversations and backstory. Thankfully, Brewster’s Roost allows characters to settle down and enjoy what’s important in life. Kapp’n is a recent addition to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, giving players a ride on his boat to islands with different environments. Players lucky enough to meet Kapp’n in Brewster’s Roost can meet his family, including his mother, wife, and daughter. The usually stoic and focused captain takes a moment to appreciate his family, reminiscing how he used to take his wife to coffee shops while they courted.

Animal Crossing’s Redd is one of the most infamous characters in the game, mostly for his regular sales of counterfeit art and expensive furniture. Redd and Tom Nook used to be business partners before the latter split, following some questionable business choices. True to his cunning nature, Redd immediately wishes he had brought some merchandise to sell at the Roost. However, he’s also quick to acknowledge how nice it is to meet a client in such a comfortable setting.

Like most characters, Redd enjoys the Roost’s comforting atmosphere and takes a chance to relax from his drifting lifestyle. It’s encouraging to see that even Animal Crossing’s most morally corrupt character can take a moment to unwind in Brewster’s Roost, speaking to Brewster’s success as a business owner.

Rover has appeared in many Animal Crossing games and was responsible for Animal Crossing’s character creation until Timmy and Tommy entered the series. After that, his in-game appearances sharply declined, leaving many mourning the loss of Rover’s charming presence. Thankfully, Animal Crossing: New Horizons featured his return with a May Day maze. The lovely cat can appear in the Roost alongside Tom Nook, giving players another way to directly interact with Rover outside of May Day.

This nostalgic recollection is an homage to long-time Animal Crossing fans whose journey began with Rover's pleasant introduction. Nintendo's completion of Animal Crossing: New Horizons content means Rover won't see a larger role in this game, but hopefully the cat can make a triumphant return in the sequel.

As some of the youngest residents on player islands, it’s strange to see Animal Crossing's Timmy and Tommy drinking coffee so casually at the Roost. Their comparatively small size suggests both of Tom Nook’s helpers are merely children, calling into question their ability to run a store while also making their consumption of caffeine a brow-raising occurrence. Still, Timmy and Tommy seem unfazed at their nutritional choices and excitedly inform the player of their connection with coffee and their first time drinking it. Both characters seem quite relaxed while staying at Brewster’s Roost but still acknowledge the business opportunities of discussing deals with clients in a comfortable environment. At the very least, Timmy and Tommy’s presence at the coffee shop confirms the brothers don’t always live in the store.

Animal Crossing’s Tom Nook is a mysterious character, having received a twisted reputation thanks to his ruthless loans and incessantly peppy attitude. Though his businesses are technically legal, his price gouging and habits are particularly excruciating to long-time Animal Crossing players. Despite Tom Nook’s lengthy presence within the Animal Crossing franchise, fans know only bits and pieces of his backstory.

If players encounter Lyle in Brewster’s Roost, he’ll inform the player about the business partnership he shared with Tom and how he’s responsible for introducing him to Isabelle. Lyle speaks nothing but praise for Tom Nook’s business ventures and mentions how Isabelle is an “ace” and a very hard worker. The otter’s nostalgic recollection of the past is almost enough to forget the amount of work Tom Nook forces players to endure to pay off their debts.

No matter which characters players run into at Brewster’s Roost, the interactions provide a new level of socialization to the usually restrictive island life. With the addition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Happy Home Paradise DLC and 2.0 update, players can finally explore beyond the comfort zones Nintendo established at launch. The opportunity to bond with new characters and learn more about the Animal Crossing world (as well as revel in nostalgia) is an exciting addition long overdue in ACNH. Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 2.0 update and Happy Home Paradise DLC are available now for game owners on the Nintendo Switch.
