Warning! Spoilers for What If... Miles Morales #1 by Marvel Comics
Miles Morales is becoming the new Captain America in a brand new series from Marvel Comics, titled What If... Miles Morales. This week, Marvel revealed the new series that will focus on the question, "what if Miles Morales followed in the footsteps of other heroes other than Spider-Man?" The first issue of the comic, which will arrive in comic book stores in March 2022, will feature Miles Morales becoming Captain America after taking the Super Soldier Serum.
Marvel Comics What If...? anthology tells Multiversal stories in the Marvel Universe where key events have gone differently from how they happened in the main canon. Marvel's first What If...? tale featured Spider-Man joining the Fantastic Four. The comic series later got an animation adaptation in Disney+'s What If...?, which focused on alternate realities and situations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This week, Marvel Comics teased the new What If...? series with an image showcasing Miles Morales as Wolverine. Now, it's been revealed the series will solely focus on Miles becoming different heroes instead of Spider-Man.
The first issue What If... Miles Morales will feature the titular hero becoming Captain America. In a story from Cody Ziglar and Paco Medina, Morales will become the Friendly Neighbourhood Captain America. The synopsis for the story reveals the comic will showcase what would happen if Miles Morales was injected with the Super-Solider Serum as opposed to being bitten by a genetically modified spider. Ziglar said in a press release that kicking off the new What If? series is a "dream come true" and that he can't wait for readers to see "... our boy Miles yeet' that shield and how he handles the mantle of Captain America."
In the cover for What If... Miles Morales #1, Morales wears a costume that resembles Bucky Barnes' Captain America, that features more black than blue. In the image, it seems that Starling has become Falcon in the new What If...? Marvel Universe.
Marvel teased that upcoming issues of the series will include new versions of Miles Morales as several different heroes designed by Medina, including Wolverine, Thor, and the Hulk. For readers who wondered what Miles Morales might look like if he wasn't Spider-Man and became different heroes in the Marvel Universe, What If... Miles Morales is a dream come true. Plus, it's exciting that Marvel is reviving the What If...? series, even if it's only focused on Miles Morales. Readers can see the hero become Captain America when What If... Miles Morales #1 comes to comic book shops in March 2022.
