Cyberpunk 2077 Designer Thanks Fans For Wave Of Positive Steam Reviews

Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a massive wave of positive reviews on Steam over the past few days, and quest designer Pawel Sasko is thanking fans for their support. CD Projekt Red’s open-world adaptation of the popular Cyberpunk tabletop RPG was once one of the most anticipated games of 2020, but it was met with one of the most controversial launches in recent memory when it was released with a multitude of game-breaking bugs and glitches last November.

The backlash toward Cyberpunk 2077’s poor technical performance was so severe that both Sony and Microsoft provided players full refunds for the game shortly after it launched, and Sony even went as far as to temporarily pull Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store last December. CD Projekt Red has since made correcting Cyberpunk 2077’s many technical issues one of its top priorities, releasing a string of update patches all year long and postponing Cyberpunk 2077’s planned PS5 and Xbox Series X updates until next year at the earliest. CDPR CEO Adam KiciÅ„ski reported that Cyberpunk 2077 was running at a “satisfactory level of stability” back in June, but many feel that more work is needed to bring the ambitious title up to the level of quality that CD Projekt Red promised players during Cyberpunk 2077’s nearly five-year-long development cycle.

It does appear that players are starting to look at Cyberpunk 2077 more favorably though, at least on Steam. VGC reports that Cyberpunk 2077 is seeing an influx of positive reviews on Steam in the wake of this week’s Steam Autumn Sale offer, which allowed customers to pick up Cyberpunk 2077 at 50% off. More than 18,000 positive reviews for Cyberpunk 2077 have been posted during this time, upgrading the game’s user rating from “mostly positive” to “very positive” and elevating it to first place on Steam’s Global Top Sellers list. Cyberpunk 2077 quest designer Pawel Sasko took note of this uptick in positive Steam reviews on Twitter a couple of days ago, thanking fans for their support and expressing how much the wave of positive feedback means to him.

Earlier this month, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam KiciÅ„ski expressed hope that players will one day look back on Cyberpunk 2077 more positively, and that the current controversy surrounding the game will eventually help its brand awareness as CDPR works to improve Cyberpunk 2077 even further in the coming years. Back in August, CD Projekt Red finally released Cyberpunk 2077’s first batch of DLC content, though more recent developments suggest that any further expansions won’t be released until sometime next year.

Cyberpunk 2077 arguably still has a long way to go before it can shake off the bad reputation from its disastrous launch last year, as well as elevate itself to the high bar set by CD Projekt Red’s past games like The Witcher 3. However, Cyberpunk 2077’s recent wave of positive feedback and increased sales on Steam is a worthwhile start, even as CD Projekt Red continues to plan further Cyberpunk 2077 updates and bug fixes for the once-troubled futuristic RPG adventure.
