A Final Fantasy XIV-themed cookbook is currently in the works, meaning that fans will be able to sample the foods of Eorzea this fall. Square Enix’s massively multiplayer online JRPG is still going strong even a decade after it first launched, overcoming a difficult early showing and a major shakeup of its development team to garner over 22 million registered players as of April 2021.
Like most MMOs, part of Final Fantasy XIV’s success comes from the large and expansive world that players all over the globe can log into, featuring four major cities and several different environments. Naturally, this setting has plenty of unique dishes for its citizens to dine on after a long day of slaying monsters and embarking on epic quests, and now players will be able to try out some of Hydaelyn’s finest cuisine in the comfort of their own kitchen.
According to Siliconera, Square Enix is releasing an official Final Fantasy 14 cookbook on November 9 by noted Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics tie-in publisher Insight Editions. Twitter gaming news hunter Wario64 posted a screenshot of a now-modified Simon & Schuster listing for The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook, which was described as featuring “favorite flavors from across Hydaelyn and Norvrandt and easy-to-follow instructions, this tome provides numerous tips on how to make the most of your ingredients” and contains 192 pages and more than 70 recipes. The page in question has now been altered to simply read “licensed video game cookbook,” but fans can see the original posting for the $35 hardcover in the post below:
This cookbook will come right as Final Fantasy 14’s latest expansion, Endwalker, launches on November 23. The update looks quite promising, with Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida stating that Endwalker will feature more story and cutscenes than even 2019’s Shadowbringers. It’s welcome news for fans of Final Fantasy XIV, which has recently seen an uptick of subscribers on Steam over the past week.
A Final Fantasy XIV-themed cookbook may seem out of leftfield (and some might argue that 2016’s Final Fantasy XV would be a better fit for such a tie-in given part member Ignis Scientia’s penchant for coming up with new recipes in the heat of battle), but the vast setting of Hydaelyn certainly contains enough interesting dishes to fill out a 192-page hardcover. Fans will get a chance to sample the meals of Final Fantasy XIV when The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook hits bookstores on November 9.
