The third season of DC’s animated series Harley Quinn reportedly won’t be airing until late 2021. The popular DC original starring Kaley Cuoco as Harley was recently renewed for Season 3 at HBO Max, but it may be a while before fans get to see Harley back on screen.
As a character, Harley Quinn has been getting significant positive attention for the past few years. Beyond the positively reviewed animated series, the Margot Robbie-led Birds Of Prey had a massive impact on the popularity of the character, despite having a less than ideal turnout at the box office. The fast-talking and sarcastic Batman villain has gone from a simple antagonist to a beloved anti-hero thanks to representations like Birds of Prey and the Harley Quinn series.
This news about Harley Quinn’s Season 3 release date comes via Deadline's interview with show creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker. When asked about a Season 3 release date, the two creators stated that late 2021 would be an “optimistic” guess when new episodes would come out. It is also possible the show could take even longer to produce, but Schumacker notes production should be slightly more manageable this time around since they won’t be making two seasons back to back.
When Season 3 finally does release, Schumacker and Halpern have stated they want to expand on the stories they presented in the first two seasons. The Harley Quinn series has been praised for its willingness to explore the ongoing romance between Harley and Poison Ivy. Halpern says he would like to include some episodes from Poison Ivy’s point of view. Schumacker adds he would like to explore Commissioner Gordon more and show how Gotham’s citizens are disapproving of his leadership.
Fans already have some idea of what to expect from Season 3 of Harley Quinn, but the Season 2 finale still left unanswered questions. The 2021 release date may be disappointing for fans anxiously awaiting new episodes, but the time put in by the show’s writers will hopefully create a more engaging and exciting season. Harley Quinn Season 3 will be available on HBO Max, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
