I Dream Of Jeannie: 10 Of Major Nelson's Biggest Overreactions

I Dream Of Jeannie was filled with five seasons of magical mischief. The main characters were put through many stressful situations with Jeannie the genie getting Tony and Roger into trouble as well as getting them out of their own messes.

In these chaotic circumstances, Major Anthony Nelson would lose his calm to a point that was understandable for a man whose life was overtaken by a Jeannie. But sometimes the situations weren't actually all that bad and Tony just needed to take a breather.

10 Telling Jeannie Off

There were times when Tony needed to get off his high horse, in particular, the times he was telling Jeannie off. He would say her actions created trouble or that enough was enough, and that she should stop. But when Jeannie went ahead and ignored him, doing one more thing before she listened, he would laugh. He enjoyed watching her antics and often overreacted to the things she did that weren't noticeable to anyone.

9 Whenever He Fell Over

I Dream Of Jeannie was a magical comedy. Jeannie, Tony, and Roger were three hilarious partners in crime as they tried to fix magical mistakes and prevent witnesses from seeing them. Tony would often get put into deathly predicaments like fighting a man two times his height or being placed in a guillotine.

His reactions to those things were understandable. But in daily life, Tony was a bit dramatic. He often fell over and made the fall greater by doing a roll to increase the over-exaggerated physical comedy of the sitcom. He even fell so hard once that he got easy amnesia.

8 When Jeannie Made Every Day Sunday

Jeannie makes every day Sunday so Tony can relax, but he isn't very grateful. In addition to Tony calling Jeannie's idea insane and the worst one she's had, Tony then goes on to make a big deal out of it. He even tells Doctor Bellows the calendar has stopped, making the situation worse by including a suspicious party and someone who thinks he's insane.

7 When Jeannie Helped Roger Find Love

It's no secret that Roger's no good with money, love, or power. When Jeannie and Tony get married, Roger doesn't want to impose on their lives and sulks around on his own. Jeannie feels sorry for him and tries to find him love through a matchmaking service. Tony doesn't know what Jeannie's doing and only finds out when Jeannie's date for Roger crashes a date Roger is already on, a date Tony has to make sure goes smoothly.

6 Jeannie's Love Interests

Just as Jeannie gets jealous of Tony going on dates and meeting women, Tony gets jealous of Jeannie. The will they won't they chemistry that lasted over 4 seasons before the eventual wedding episode made the show that much more entertaining.

But Tony would often overreact when Jeannie "found" a love interest and would want to marry them straight away. The two of them have done this to each other many times before, and the outcome is always the same. Tony and Jeannie together again.

5 Whenever Jeannie Appeared In His Office

Jeannie might not be the most discreet genie, popping in and out and floating in the air, but she's not a dumb genie. Tony has a private office at the NASA base and Jeannie likes to apparate in to talk because she misses him and gets bored. It's not surprising because other than Tony, she has no company. No matter how many times she does it, he gets scared someone will see her.

4 Telling Jeannie Not To Help Him

In the season 1 episode "Jeannie And The Kidnap Caper," Tony makes Jeannie take an oath not to help him. It's the first season, so their dynamic is still young, but the two have gotten in and out of trouble a lot.

As it's the 21st episode, Tony should really have a voice whispering in his ear saying if Jeannie can't help, something is going to happen where he will need her help. Of course, this happens and continues to happen for the next 4 seasons.

3 Hoping To Get Rid Of Jeannie's Powers

In the season 2 episode "The Birds And The Bees Bit," Tony proposes to Jeannie. Why does he do this when he is so opposed to marrying Jeannie? He finds out a genie married to a mortal will lose their powers. He takes a big step over a tiny piece of information and has selfish intentions. If it wasn't for Jeannie and Roger investigating the future, Tony's rash decision would have resulted in a magical daughter.

2 Lying To Jeannie

With a jealous genie in the house, it isn't easy for Tony to travel or go on dates. But Tony often makes the situations worse by lying to Jeannie instead of saying where he is really going. He even tries to trick her several times and uses work as an excuse. Both Jeannie and Tony are big overreactors when it comes to each other's love lives and interactions.

1 When Jeannie Followed Him On A Yacht

In the season 1 episode "The Yacht Murder Case," Jeannie follows Tony onto a yacht where he has a work meeting. Tony tries to prevent Jeannie from being seen by trapping her in a vacuum only for her to escape. Jeannie is seen and thought of as a guest. Tony tells her to go and she blinks away. Now, because they are on a boat in the middle of the ocean, there isn't anywhere Jeannie could go without causing suspicion to her disappearance. Tony didn't think of that, did he?
