Todd Chavez is one of the most lovable and up-beat characters on BoJack Horseman. He started off as a freeloader living on BoJack's couch, but as the series progressed, he has proven himself over and over again that he is much more than just a slacker who has lost his way in life.
He was briefly a governor of California, president of ad sales and a CEO of Cabracadabra - but he never cared for money or power. He didn't care when he tipped a waitress millions of dollars by accident and hated responsibilities more than anything else. His humor and creativity are forever going to be remembered through the most iconic things he said.
10 "You Do The Hokey Pokey And You Turn Yourself Around"
In "Nice While It Lasted," BoJack Horseman's final episode, BoJack is worried about relapsing, but Todd gives BoJack a little pep talk by quoting the famous song: "You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around - that's what it's all about!"
BoJack is not convinced by Todd's interpretation of the song, but it's textbook Todd: an ever-so-optimistic guy who thinks it's never too late to get better.
9 "Call Me Four Out Of Five Dentists Because I Agree!"
Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter both love to drive their points home with some sort of a pop-culture reference leading up to the punchline. "Call me four out of five dentists because I agree" is one of Todd's most iconic quotes. It's a reminder of one of the many wacky business ideas he had: clown dentists.
Any rational adult would know that children would be terrified of clown dentists, but not someone as pure-hearted as Todd.
8 "I Do Love Having My Picture Taken, It's Proof I Exist"
In season 4, Princess Carolyn asks Todd to date a famous actress, Courtney Portnoy, since it would be good for publicity if she dates a "down-to-earth, boring nobody."
Todd hesitates, but PC convinces him by telling him he just needs to eat lunch with her and have paparazzi take photos of him. He replies: "I do love having my picture taken, it's proof it exists." This quote is a silent nod to the fact that Todd might suffer from dissociation.
7 "As My Blood Type Always Says, B Positive!"
Todd's life philosophy might seem too simplistic to cynics such as Diane or BoJack, but his glass-always-half-full attitude actually takes a lot of resilience and will-power.
When he finds himself in a stressful situation with Princess Carolyn, he tells her: "As my blood type always says, B positive!" Pulling off silly jokes such as this one is one of many reasons why BoJack Horseman is such a great show.
6 "Hooray, A Task!"
Todd's iconic exclamation, "Hooray," charmed the audience back in Season 1. Back then, Todd lived with BoJack and he had too much time on his hands. After being told to turn the car around, Todd shouts "Hooray, a task!"
This moment hints at what will be learned about Todd later on. Even though most characters implicitly disregard him as some random lazy couch surfer, he is actually a very proactive and hard-working individual. After all, he wrote a rock opera and built his very own amusement park.
5 "It's Always Nice To Be Included In A Sentence Someone Says"
Todd is so often overlooked by everyone else who leads serious and responsible lives with "real" jobs, that he is not even used to hearing his own name.
"It's always nice to be included in a sentence someone says" is such an adorable and slightly heartbreaking quote. By the end of the series, his ringtone is him singing "Todd, Todd, Todd, Todd," so he hears his own name plenty.
4 "You Know, Sometimes I Feel Like My Whole Life Is Just A Series Of Loosely-Related Wacky Misadventures"
Amidst a chaotic episode where Todd is trying to save a broiler chicken from untimely death, he comments on his life and says what we have all been seeing all along: it's a series of loosely-related wacky misadventures.
Such moments in BoJack Horseman might remind fans of Rick and Morty, a show that has similar meta-commentaries.
3 "Fool Me Once, Fool Me Twice, Fool Me Chicken Soup With Rice"
This is one of those heartwarming humorous moments that are unique to BoJack Horseman. In "Zoes and Zeldas," Mr. Peanutbutter, Todd and Virgil Van Cleef all fail miserably to get the famous saying right.
Chicken Soup with Rice is actually Maurice Sendak's poetry book - perhaps Todd has special memories of this book. The saying makes no sense, yet it's one of those quintessential Todd quotes that fans love.
2 "I Never Know If I Can Handle Anything. That's What Makes My Life So Exciting"
This quote is from "Hooray! Todd Episode!" - an episode that offers profound insight into Todd's life when no one else is watching.
Throughout the episode, he helps his successful friends in ways that they don't even notice, but gets some hard-earned recognition from BoJack: "I got more of you than I ever deserved. And if you never talk to me again, I just want you know that I appreciate it, and … I appreciate you."
1 "You Are All The Things That Are Wrong With You"
Todd is very slow to anger, but even he had enough of BoJack's constant irresponsible behavior. Todd put up with BoJack's abuse and didn't get an inch of respect in return.
After BoJack hooked up with Todd's ex-girlfriend Emily and didn't want to take any responsibility, Todd solemnly told him: "BoJack, just stop. You are all the things that are wrong with you. It’s not the alcohol, or the drugs or any of the shi**y things that happened to you in your career or when you were a kid. It’s you. All right?"
