The Real Housewives franchise has seen its fair share of horrible couples. Women enter the show with either the picture-perfect family or a marriage that's on the fritz. Over time, viewers learn more and more about what goes on behind closed doors (and it's rarely good).
With nine cities in the franchise, we've seen some horrendous couples over the years. Luann and Tom from RHONY went down in flames almost as quickly as they began, and RHOC's Gretchen and Slade have always been a couple that fans were against. But were they the worst? 10 Lynne & Frank Curtin
Lynne Curtin and her husband Frank only lasted two seasons on RHOC. Lynne and Frank seemed like a lovely couple at first, being the parents to two daughters, but it was obvious the marriage was off-balance.
Lynne and Frank's two daughters were underage and caught drinking on camera, but that wasn't the worst of it. Lynne and her daughters found out on camera that they were being evicted from their home. It turns out Frank wasn't being completely honest with Lynne about their finances and made her look like a fool in their relationship and on TV. The two divorced in 2013.
9 Ashley & Michael Darby
The Real Housewives of Potomac is only on its fifth season but Ashley and Michael Darby have been a topic of conversation since the first season. Ashley is 29 years younger than her husband and has been judged for this on TV. However, at the beginning, it looked like they truly loved each other.
After the two opened a restaurant together, their relationship became less about love and more about business. Michael belittled and questioned Ashely's every move, but that wasn't the worst part. A Bravo producer ended up suing Michael because he allegedly grabbed his backside while filming. After that lawsuit followed numerous cheating allegations. From connecting with men on Grindr to being secretly filmed with another woman in a hotel, these two are on the hot mess express.
8 Meghan King & Jim Edmonds
Meghan King and Jim Edmonds were another RHOC couple that looked beautiful on the outside but had some major commitment issues in their marriage. With Meghan being younger than Jim, they were on two different pages. Jim was a former MLB player and is now a broadcaster. He already had children and wasn't interested in having more. Meghan, on the other hand, craved children.
After getting pregnant with their daughter Aspen, the two went on to have twins. But it was after Meghan gave birth that she found out her husband had been cheating on her during her pregnancy. She tried to give their marriage another shot but it didn't work out. The two are now in a very public and bitter divorce battle.
7 Tamara Judge & Simon Barney
Simon Barney was the ultimate villain in the early seasons of RHOC. He and Tamra were clearly very different individuals and had different outlooks on parenting. He essentially wanted a stay-at-home wife who did as she was told and didn't embarrass him. Tamra, however, was none of those things. She dances to the beat of her own drum and should be celebrated for it.
They had nasty arguments on TV; one even ended with Tamra screaming "I want a divorce!" in the back of a limo going to a party. The two went their separate ways and Tamra lost contact with her daughter Sydney who "chose" her dad in the divorce.
6 Phaedra Parks & Apollo Nida
Phaedra Parks is one of the most accomplished women in the Housewives franchise. With a law degree, being a partner at a law firm, and the mother of two children, Phaedra never slows down.
We saw her relationship with Apollo bloom on RHOA and the two married in 2009. While on RHOA, the two started bickering and drama between him and castmate Kenya Moore became an ongoing topic. As if things couldn't get worse, Apollo was caught for fraud and identity theft and charged with eight years in prison, according to BravoTV.com. With Phaedra being a respected lawyer in the area, she couldn't be married to a man who was breaking the law in such horrific ways, so she divorced him.
5 Taylor & Russell Armstrong
Apollo, Michael, and Jim didn't have the best moments during their time on The Real Housewives but it gets worse from here. RHOBH star Taylor Armstrong told cameras that her relationship with her husband Russell seemed more business-related than romance. There was obvious tension between the two when they were on camera, but then it was released that Taylor was the victim of domestic violence. She tried covering her black eye with makeup but it didn't work. When Taylor had enough, she filed for divorce from Russell who was only becoming more aggressive with her.
In the middle of their divorce, Taylor found Russell hanging by suicide in the home he was sharing with a friend. After encountering money issues and having his name dragged through reality television, Russell took his own life.
4 Porsha Williams & Kordell Stewart
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams joined the cast in the fifth season when she was married to NFL star, Kordell Stewart. Her marriage was a huge storyline because it appeared like Porsha needed Kordell's permission to do anything. In fact, season five Porsha and season 12 Porsha are totally different people.
So, what made Kordell and Porsha so bad besides the obvious control issues? He announced his divorce from his wife on social media... before discussing it with Porsha! After that, the cat was out of the bag and their marital issues became public.
3 Michaele & Tareq
Remember Michaele and Tareq from Real Housewives of D.C.? This city didn't last long in the franchise but Michaele and Tareq could never be forgotten. Their relationship was filled with controversy throughout the show. Nothing the couple said ever made sense and they acted like D.C. royalty. After crashing the White House's state dinner (!!), Tareq made an announcement that his wife had been kidnapped. Well, she actually wasn't kidnapped at all. She just ran away from home to be with musician Neal Schon! The two ended up divorcing and she went on to marry Neal.
2 Vicki Gunvulson & Brooks Ayres
Does it get any worse than Vicki and Brooks? At the start of their relationship, Brooks seemed like a sweet man. He had southern roots and appeared to treat Vicki with the respect she deserved after her divorce from Don. However, his little act didn't last long.
It was said Brooks was a pathological liar and was broke, using Vicki for her fortune. When all her friends turned against him, he all of sudden had cancer. But he didn't get much sympathy from her friends.
Rumors began swirling that Brooks was faking his cancer (which both denied), but years later it came out that he was, in fact, lying about his cancer! Vicki left the relationship claiming she had no idea he was lying but do fans believe her?
1 Shannon & David Beador
Do the ladies of RHOC have the worst relationships in the franchise?! Shannon and David Beador were horrific. The married couple lost their way and became agitated with one another. Both felt alone in their marriage, but David hit below the belt. He made fun of her weight, they barely slept together, and she found out he was having an affair. The affair hit her hard and no matter how much she tried to put it past her, she couldn't the two divorced and David is, once again, engaged.
