Bachelor: Victoria Supports BLM, Admits She Was 'Part of the Problem'

Victoria Fuller of The Bachelor has apologized for her previous actions and put her full support behind the Black Lives Matter movement. Fuller was on the latest season of The Bachelor starring Peter Weber. Pictures were found of her wearing “White Lives Matter” attire during the airing of the show.

Fuller came in third to Hannah Ann Slauss and Madison Prewett on The Bachelor, and was a controversial contestant throughout the season. She was called out for having affairs with married men, an arrest for a DUI in 2017 and even had ex boyfriend Chase Rice show up at one of her dates with Weber. The photos of her found online posing in “White Lives Matter” clothing became her biggest scandal. She was supposed to appear on the cover of Cosmopolitan with Weber, but Cosmopolitan pulled the cover after discovering the photos. Fuller has since apologized for her involvement in the campaign that she explained was for We Love Marlins to protest against white marlin fishing. The Virginia Beach native wrote on Instagram that she comes from a big fishing town, and was attempting to protect endangered species.

Earlier this week on Instagram, Fuller changed her message, as reported by US Weekly. She posted several pictures of protesters from her hometown with an extensive caption in which she admitted, “I have been part of the problem. And for that I am sorry.” Fuller went on to say that she was taking the time to educate herself about systematic racism in America. She also put her full support behind Black Lives Matter, writing, “The BLM movement has fought to create a world free of anti-Blackness, where every Black person has the social, economic, and political power to thrive.” She went on to address white privilege, asking her followers to reflect on their privilege, and decide to do better.

At the end of the post, Fuller included a list of “What We Can Do” to encourage her followers to take steps to support the movement. She asked her followers to educate themselves, and recommended reading material such as White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, which she said she has started herself. Fuller also posted a link to donate to Reclaim the Block, a Minneapolis based organization that organized community members in hopes of redistributing the city budget to help the community’s health and safety. Minneapolis has been under a `specific spotlight because it was where George Floyd was killed by a police officer on May 25 this year. Fuller ended her post by asking others to reflect, and ask themselves, “In what ways does my proximity to whiteness afford me privileges that are not extended to Black people?”

Fuller has also been in the news for dating former Bachelor Chris Soules, who has also had trouble with the law in the past. He has not posted anything about the recent protests. Fuller’s attitude towards her own education is encouraging, and will hopefully spread to Soules as well.
