Season 7 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could be coming sooner than fans expect, as stars Chloe Bennet and Clark Gregg share behind-the-scenes content from the show's upcoming final season. As one of the longest-running comic book series so far, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a TV constant since it premiered in 2013. Though never a ratings hit, it's nonetheless been ABC's most successful attempt at taking advantage of its Marvel Studios connection. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was also helped initially by Gregg's Phil Coulson, a fan favorite from the MCU who was killed by Loki in The Avengers. After being brought back to life for the ABC series, he eventually died for real, albeit after several seasons.
After airing during the regular TV season for its entire run, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was moved to the summer last season, for what many expected would be the show's final run. However, ABC ended up renewing the series, making its upcoming seventh season its last. No release date has yet been announced, but it was expected to air in the summer like season 6. Due to the coronavirus, though, TV schedules are currently in flux, as shows have had to end their seasons early. This has led some fans to think ABC should release season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead of time, which Bennet and Gregg seem to support. Last month, both retweeted a fan suggesting just that.
Now, both stars have taken to Instagram to share new behind-the-scenes content from the upcoming season, which will find the Marvel agents time-traveling to the 1930s. Gregg shared a photo of himself first, followed by a video of him shooting an old-fashioned gun. Bennet then shared a new image of herself, as well as one with other members of the cast. In all of them, those on camera are dressed in the period outfits teased in previously released photos. Check out the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7 content below:
Though the new photos and video are interesting, they don't reveal too much about season 7 that wasn't already known. Gregg and Bennet's captions about the content being "top secret," plus the timing of both of them releasing things at the same time, is more noteworthy. Though it doesn't mean for sure a season 7 premiere date announcement is on the way, it certainly could. Since filming on the final season wrapped last summer, there's really no reason for ABC to wait to air it, unless post-production still needs to be completed.
This is especially true since the network will be facing holes in its schedule due to the coronavirus. There's also no known date at this time for when Hollywood may be able to resume work again. This will leave streamers and networks looking to use up any content they have banked now, a category Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. falls in. Even if fans don't hear about a season 7 premiere date immediately, hopefully Gregg and Bennet's posts indicate an announcement will be coming soon.
