Hellraiser Reboot Sets Writing & Directing Team | Screen Rant

The upcoming reboot of Hellraiser has found its writers and director. Across his careers as a playwright, author, and filmmaker, Clive Barker has earned his place in the pantheon of horror masters. Arguably his most famous work, 1987's Hellraiser, started out as an adaptation of his novella, The Hellbound Heart. The film was a success and the Pinhead character instantly became one of the most iconic figures in horror history. The series has earned acclaim for its cerebral themes, horrific gore, and provocative images of mutilation due to its sadomasochistic subject matter.

After languishing in direct-to-video limbo for several films (though the little-seen Hellraiser: Judgment nonetheless earned significant acclaim), David Goyer and Spyglass Media Group are rebooting the franchise with a new movie, and they've hired their writers and director. According to THR, the new Hellraiser will be written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, and directed by David Bruckner. Together, these three filmmakers collaborated with Goyer on The Night House, which made waves at the Sundance Film Festival. Bruckner is also known for his work on the acclaimed horror anthology films V/H/S and Southbound.

The Hellraiser series is long overdue for a big screen comeback, and the sight of Pinhead in the 1987 original remains as strikingly horrific as ever. The filmmakers chosen by Goyer and Spyglass have a proven pedigree in the horror genre, so hopes are high that they'll be able to do justice to the beloved franchise while delivering a new movie that will shock and provoke longtime fans and newcomers alike.
