Chris Hemsworth fed his Extraction co-star outlandish Avengers: Endgame spoilers during the production of their upcoming action thriller. Hemsworth has inhabited the God of Thunder since Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame, the second to last film of Phase 3 (behind Spider-Man: Far From Home), brought an end to the Infinity Saga. The epic finale book-ended the arcs of characters like Iron Man and Captain America. Before the film’s release, Avengers: Infinity War left the fate of every MCU hero up in the air.
To say that Avengers: Endgame was shrouded in secrecy is an understatement. Most of the actors weren’t given entire scripts. The directors of the film, the Russo brothers, went as far as releasing a personal plea to the public not to spoil any of their MCU movies. This desire to surprise audiences affected everything from the marketing of Spider-Man: Far From Home to the fate of Captain America. The seemingly endless amount of misdirection led to outrageous fan theories and fake spoilers.
Chris Hemsworth stars alongside Rudhraksh Jaiswal in Netflix’s upcoming film, Extraction. According to Koimoi, Jaiswal tried to extract Avengers: Endgame spoilers from Hemsworth while filming in Bangkok right before Christmas of 2018. The actor inquired about the fates of Thor, Captain American, Iron Man, and any new characters. Adhering to contractual and creative obligations, Hemsworth said, “I’m not going to tell you Roody. You have to watch the film.” Jaiswal added, "I told him to give me one spoiler and he gave me fake spoilers to confuse me so that I don’t ask him again. He told me that Spider-Man will turn into Ant-Man. I asked him how is this possible and he said you have to watch the movie for that."
The fact that Jaiswal was unable to elicit any real MCU spoilers is a testament to the integrity of Marvel's talent. On top of being produced by the Russo brothers, written by Joe, and staring Hemsworth as its lead, Extraction has a handful of other ties to Marvel. The new film also stars Derek Luke and David Harbour, who play Gabe in Captain America: The First Avenger and Red Guardian in the upcoming Black Widow, respectively. Extraction’s director, Sam Hargrave, is also a longtime stunt coordinator for the MCU.
In hindsight, Hemsworth’s fake Spider-Man spoiler sounds outrageous; however, two years ago, alongside that theory about Ant-Man "entering" Thanos, it could’ve seemed like a viable plot point. While he may not have witnessed one bug turn into another, after seeing Avengers: Endgame, Jaiswal told Hemsworth how much he loved fat Thor’s character arc. Hemsworth’s Thor, who survived the events of the film, is set to return in Thor: Love and Thunder. Unfortunately, Phase 4 of the MCU has been delayed but fans will get to see Hemsworth and Jaiswal in action later this month.
