Friends: 10 Characters Ross Should Have Been With (Other Than Rachel)

Throughout all 10 seasons of Friends, fans watched Ross jump from relationship to relationship. Most of these relationships ended poorly and some even ended in divorce. This leaves viewers to wonder why so many of Ross's relationships failed.

Truthfully, most of his relationships ended due to his desire to be with Rachel. It's very possible that one of his earlier relationships would have thrived and ultimately saved him quite a bit of heartbreak, had he and Rachel never gotten together. Here are 10 characters that Ross should have been with (other than Rachel) that had the potential to go the distance with him.

10 Phoebe

This pairing definitely has the potential to be the perfect couple. In "The One With The Flashback", fans see Ross and Phoebe make a romantic connection and even share a kiss. It's clear that these two do have some level of chemistry but never had the chance to explore it.

Aside from this, Phoebe and Ross would balance each other out in a great way. Phoebe wouldn't put up with any of Ross's nonsense and Ross would help keep Phoebe grounded. Opposites attract so who's to say that Phoebe and Ross wouldn't be the perfect match?

9 Janice

In season five, viewers had the pleasure of seeing Janice break up with Ross for being too whiney. Of course, the irony in this situation was hilarious. While Janice and Ross's brief relationship was cut short, there's reason to believe that these two could have gone the distance.

Both Janice and Ross can be very needy so it would only make sense that the two get together and cater to one another's needs. Janice also loves to communicate so there would never be any confusion as to whether or not she and Ross are on a break.

8 Kathy

Kathy and Ross are very similar so they may just be a match made in heaven. Kathy is a somewhat controversial character in Friends, just like Ross. Many fans of the series dislike Kathy based on the way she treated both Joey and Chandler. Alternatively, viewers tend to dislike Ross due to the way he treats women.

Both Kathy and Ross have struggled with communication in their relationships leading them to become unfaithful to their partners. It's possible that together, they could learn a thing or two.

7 Bonnie

Bonnie and Ross's relationship was never really given a fair chance. She could have been great for Ross but fans will never know for sure. In "The One at the Beach", Rachel sabotaged Ross and Bonnie's relationship by convincing Bonnie to shave her head.

Of course, this situation isn't completely Rachel's fault by any means. Ross could have absolutely been the bigger person and stayed with Bonnie, hair or no hair. Had Ross stayed with Bonnie he may have found out that Bonnie was his perfect match and he would have saved himself from any further drama with Rachel.

6 Janine

It's no secret that Chandler, Joey, and Ross all found Janine attractive. Unfortunately, Janine didn't turn out to be the best match for Joey. She was constantly critical of Chandler and Monica, which made it virtually impossible for Joey to stay with her.

This doesn't mean that Janine couldn't have been a great fit for Ross, however. Ross lived further away from Chandler and Monica so this clash wouldn't have been such a prominent issue. These two also have quite a bit in common such as a love for dance and a passion for keeping their apartments neat and tidy.

5 Julie

Julie is another one of Ross's girlfriends that never got a fair shot. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Julie and Ross's relationship. They were great together, but unfortunately, this is just another relationship that fell victim to Ross and Rachel getting together.

It's too bad too because Julie could have been the one for Ross from the very beginning. Had Ross stuck it out with Julie and allowed his feelings for her to further develop, he may have saved himself from some future heartache.

4 Susie

Ross and Susie didn't exactly have their own storyline, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't have been perfect for each other. Ross never really got the chance to get to know Susie as she started dating Chandler right off the bat. Little did Chandler know, Susie was only dating him to get revenge for something Chandler did to her in grade school.

Fans would have loved to see a little more of Susie and maybe even watch her give a relationship with Ross a chance - considering she was never truly interested in Chandler anyway.

3 Joanna

While it may be an unusual concept for Ross to date his ex-girlfriend's boss, this could have been a really interesting storyline for the series. Fans got to see Chandler and Joanna give their relationship a shot but it ultimately didn't work out. Chandler found her to be dull and apparently disliked the "mascara goop thing in the corner of her eye."

However, this doesn't mean that Ross wouldn't have enjoyed being around Joanna. Ross loves to talk about things that the others often find boring so he and Joanna could have been a match made in heaven.

2 Caitlin

In "The One Where Ross Can't Flirt", viewers watch Ross crash and burn as he makes repeated attempts to flirt with Caitlin, the pizza delivery girl. It's obvious that he's attracted to her but just couldn't convey his feelings to her properly.

Unfortunately, this is the only episode where fans get to see Ross and Caitlin interact as Caitlin never returns to the series after this episode. These two definitely could have been great together had they had the opportunity to explore a potential relationship.

1 Jill

There's no denying that Jill and Ross have chemistry. In "The One With Rachel's Sister", fans see Ross and Jill share a lot of sweet moments together. It's too bad that these two never had the opportunity to truly give a relationship a shot because they could have been great together.

Throughout their brief dating period in season six, Jill and Ross found themselves relatively attracted to one another but their respective relationships with Rachel got in the way and it never worked out.
