An official Baby Yoda plush toy tie-in from The Mandalorian is finally available for pre-order online. Baby Yoda is possibly the most buzzed about new character to arise from the Star Wars franchise. First appearing in the last moments of The Mandalorian season 1 premiere, Baby Yoda has captured the hearts of fans with his adorable looks. Like Mando, fans can now have their very own Baby Yoda companion.
While dubbed Baby Yoda, the character is technically still nameless. It's been referred to as The Child on The Mandalorian, but the Baby Yoda name has stuck due to the character's uncanny resemblance to Jedi Master Yoda. Yoda, first appearing in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, is from a species that ages very slowly and lives long lives. Not much is known about the species, and until Baby Yoda's appearance, Jedi Masters Yoda and Yaddle were the only known members of this species. All the members of this species that have appeared in the franchise so far have been Force-sensitive. There are already an endless number of theories and rumors about Baby Yoda, which try to shed light on where Baby Yoda came from and why seemingly every bounty hunter in the galaxy is trying to get their hands on him. Since his first appearance, viewers have already integrated Baby Yoda into several different memes, included in some incredible fan edits, and even been modded him into Battlefront 2.
Created by Mattel, the Baby Yoda plush toy is being sold by on Entertainment Earth. The plush toy will be 11-inches tall, and will come with its very own hover crib. According to the product description on Entertainment Earth, the toy consists of "a roto-vinyl head, sparkling glass eyes, and a soft body with a sturdy bean-filled base." The plush toys are currently priced at $24.99 before tax. While fans can place an order and make a payment right now, the plush is currently only available for pre-orders. At this time, the estimated shipment is set for May 2020.
This is the first, official Baby Yoda toy. There were other pieces of Baby Yoda merchandise, but they were rather disappointing, consisting of T-shirts and mugs. There were no toys planned ahead of time because producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni wanted to keep the existence of Baby Yoda under wraps. It is also likely that Disney did not know just how popular this character would be with fans. The plush toy will no doubt be the first in a long line of similar toys and merchandise that will be released. Star Wars and toys have a long, rich history, and Baby Yoda and other characters from The Mandalorian will be welcome new additions.
The Baby Yoda plush toy is adorable and will surely be a hit. Star Wars fans will have to start making room on their shelves and displays for the plush toy and hover crib. For fans who can't wait until the May 2020 shipment date, they may have alternative options. A Baby Yoda Funko Pop! collectible is in the works, and is coming soon. Five months may seem like a long time to wait, but that's only mere moments in Yoda-time.
The Mandalorian continues Friday December 6th on Disney+.
