The highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of The Witcher -- which is based on a book series of the same name -- is going to be released on December 20th, 2019. With each new trailer that has come out, the hype around the series has only grown more and more.
The star of the series is none other than Henry Cavill, who will be playing Geralt of Rivia in this fantasy drama. To get prepared for this epic new series, it's time to look back and watch the best of Henry Cavill's filmography. Here are the 10 Henry Cavill Movies To Watch Before The Witcher Premieres.
10 Man Of Steel
Man of Steel put Henry Cavill's name on the map thanks to his incredible portrayal of Superman. The DC Comics character is iconic and attempting to emulate a character such as that is no easy feat. But Cavill did so seamlessly, though critics were split on either loving or hating it.
With Henry Cavill playing a lead character that is so memorable like Superman, it's easy to see why he was cast as Geralt in The Witcher. He has a commanding and heroic presence that we're excited to see once again when the series comes out. For now, though, we'll just rewatch Man of Steel again.
9 Night Hunter
Henry Cavill, at times, is looked at as just the gorgeous actor who played Superman. But his acting chops are far beyond just that and Night Hunter proves why he shouldn't be pigeonholed.
This psychological thriller was filled with drama, action, and suspense around every corner. Cavill played a lieutenant who, with his police force and a vigilante, were after a man who had serious issues and was linked to a series of female abductions and murders. It was a very serious turn for Cavill and showed how much range he has as an actor that maybe not everyone was aware of. But for those who had any doubts, this is the movie to watch.
8 Tristan & Isolde
Henry Cavill is no stranger to historical dramas with his work on the television series The Tudors, but in Tristan & Isolde, he plays a different type of historical figure in this film about the Dark Ages.
He portrays Melot, who is an old friend of Tristan's but is resentful of his Uncle's favoring of Tristan over the years. But when Melot is tricked and left for dead by Wictred, Tristan finds his friend and the two forgive each other. It was a beautiful scene that showed a more vulnerable side to Henry's acting that we're not always used to seeing.
7 Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman going head to head in a battle royale. Bruce Wayne was angry at Superman for the destruction and chaos that was caused during the attack from Clark Kent's home planet.
What neither of them realized until much later was this was all orchestrated by Lex Luthor who was obsessed with seeing them fight to the death. Luckily, the two came to their senses before it was too late. While audiences and critics were not completely pleased with this cinematic portrayal of the two DC characters, it was still another great performance from Cavill in his role as Superman.
6 Mission Impossible: Fallout
The Mission Impossible franchise is known for epic stunts and heart-pounding action that leaves audiences on the edge of their seats, and Fallout was no different. While Tom Cruise was at the helm, of course, it was actually Cavill who stole the show as one of the two main antagonists.
He played a CIA operative who was tasked with tracking Ethan Hunt's comings and goings and was also there in case he needed to be taken out. Henry played the part exceptionally well and definitely delivered on the action in his fight sequences. It is a movie you should not miss out on.
5 Immortals
Immortals is a film centered on Greek gods and a mortal man -- played by Cavill -- who was chosen by Zeus to lead the battle against a ruthless and evil leader, King Hyperion. It had an all-star cast with the likes of Mickey Rourke and John Hurt, but it was Henry who was leading the ensemble in this action-packed film.
With plenty of battles and fight scenes abound, Cavill showed off his stunt work and ability to truly dive into his fight scenes. It's the perfect appetizer before getting to the main course of The Witcher.
4 The Count Of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo came out in 2002 with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce in the lead roles. Caviezel played the Count who had been falsely accused of treason by his best friend -- played by Pearce -- who wanted Dantes' girlfriend for himself. It was a grand tale with a revenge twist and at the time, Cavill was relatively unknown. But with his role as the Count's love interest's son, this began to truly get him in the movie big leagues.
It is a role that slowly started to make him into a star and is a film you should definitely watch to see where his career actually began.
3 Justice League
We know, this was not the most well-received superhero film there ever was. But there were still great takeaways, particularly from Cavill. The movie centers around Bruce Wayne assembling a team of other heroes, including Wonder Woman and Aquaman -- as well as others -- to form what will become the Justice League.
Along the way, they realize that Superman is not, in fact, dead, but he is very angry. His character evolved quite a bit over the course of the film and once again showed us that his acting abilities are as incredible as ever. Plus, how could we forget his role in the infamous stache-gate?
2 The Cold Light Of Day
An action-thriller centering around masters of action Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis? Well, we can likely all agree that sounds like an adventure we'd all like to go on. Cavill plays a young Wall Street trader whose family is kidnapped during their sailing trip in Spain. It leads him on a journey he never saw coming with intelligence agents looking for a "mysterious briefcase".
We get to see Henry Cavill in his action element yet again in this thriller with the added bonus of seeing him act alongside Bruce Willis. It's the perfect movie to watch to get in the zone of Geralt of Rivia's own action sequences in the upcoming series.
1 The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Everyone loves a good spy film and this is the perfect example of a modern-day take on a '60s spy thriller. Cavill plays a CIA agent working with Armie Hammer's KGB operative in a joint mission to take down a mysterious criminal organization. This organization's focus was on proliferating nuclear weapons, so you know that there were plenty of thrilling scenes with both Cavill and Hammer working to stop them from their evil plans.
It was a throwback film to the 1960s and Cavill's performance flowed seamlessly into the spy genre that we love. We felt transported back in time and were on the edges of our seats waiting to see what would happen next. This is not one you should sleep on.
