For fans of Queen of the South on the USA Network, there are plenty of different ones to choose from. Maybe you like the hero Teresa Mendoza or you're into the loyal soldier Pote.

One thing is for sure, you can't go wrong with any selection as each character has played a vital role in the growth of the show. Heading into its 5th season, there are sure to be new characters making their way into our hearts.

10 Alberto Cortez

Cortez was never one to be confused as one of the good guys. To say that he was loyal to either Epifanio and Camila would be foolish. In a sense, he's much like Boaz. He wants power and doesn't care who he has to betray or kill to get it. However, Boaz does have a sense of loyalty whereas Cortez is strictly out for himself. His death was well deserved as he's escaped that fate a few times. It was bound to catch up to him sooner or later.

He tried to put thoughts in Epifanio's head that he should take his own wife out. He kidnapped Camila and Isabela and killed Kique just to prove how ruthless he was. If you're into rooting for the bad guy, then Cortez was certainly your favorite character on Queen of the South.

9 Epifanio Vargas

Teresa did nothing wrong to Epifanio but she quickly learned that the drug game has no room for excuses. Epifanio wanted his book and was willing to kill an innocent woman to get what was his. Epifanio wanted it all. The perfect marriage, family, to be the top cartel boss and then he turned his attention to politics. Even when his wife left and he was forced to raise their daughter alone, Epifanio still had a soft spot for Camila.

He learned at a young age that to be the boss, there were sacrifices that had to be made. His family was one of them. However, he told himself he was doing it for them and in his own way, he truly was. He wanted to rule the underworld as well as be a top-level civilian. He is death was a major one but it was necessary for the story to continue.

8 Boaz Jimenez

Just plain crazy. Boaz was not to be trusted and for good reason. Power was all he ever wanted but he saw something in Teresa that made him put his ego to the side and join the team. Now, the top guy in Miami, Pote has some concerns if he's 100% down for the cause. Only time will tell on that one. What happens when he finds out that Javier is dead?

Boaz ruled the Sinaloa Cartel with an iron fist. He's a lover of fine women, alcohol, money, and power. Will he take those same measures in America? With Pote and Teresa keeping an eye on him, his actions will make Season 5 a lot more interesting going forward.

7 Camila Vargas

Despite the efforts of Epifanio, Camila was Teresa's first real enemy. Their classic showdowns have been good for the show and Camila's thirst for revenge makes that storyline better than anything we had last season. Camila can be as heartless as any male and her one lone weak spot is her daughter Isabela who at times, even Camila has to show tough love to.

Her absence in Season 4 was surely felt. If she makes it for the 5th season, her presence would have Teresa on her toes. Camila has been the one person that she just can't seem to shake in terms of enemies.

6 James Valdez

Is James the one that got away from Teresa? James was for Camila what Pote is for Teresa. The only difference was, he was a hired gun and that's how Camila treated him. James is an assassin and while he may think he has more to offer, he's just not the guy who can be second in command in case something happens to the boss.

One of the big questions regarding James is his motives. He was supposedly loyal to Camila but somehow ended up siding with Teresa only to leave her hanging numerous times. Now he's back and Season 5 will brings more questions as to what his new motives are.

5 Kelly Anne Van Awaken

There was no way Kelly Anne was supposed to be a major character on Queen of the South. She was given the role of the ditzy wife but as we've learned, there is way more to her than that. In all fairness, it appears she was born to be a part of Teresa's team. Now, she and Teresa have had their ups and downs. It even got to the point where Teresa ordered the hit on Kelly's life.

Now that's she's back, Kelly Anne is out to prove that she has Teresa's back. She has ventured into a relationship with Pote, went back to studying law, and has found a place in the organization doing the books. She's a character to keep an eye on in Season 5.

4 Javier Jimenez

Between Javier and Pote, Teresa had the best of both worlds. In the beginning, we werent so sure if Javier could be trusted. He is the cousin of the ruthless Boaz. But since he became a part of the team, he's been nothing but loyal. He does make a few mistakes here and there but Javier could be trusted. His one questionable move was falling in love with Emilia who was engaged to Boaz.

Losing Javier was a huge blow. It would have been great to see Javier and Boaz running Miami together. He wasn't too funny, always serious but he would do anything it took for Teresa to get to the to and remain there. That's what a loyal soldier is supposed to do.

3 King George

The ultimate smuggler who just rubbed all fans the wrong way in his first appearance. He was tough on James but had a crush on Teresa. King George was a strange character in the early going but he turned into a trusted member of Teresa's organization as the series grew. He lost his friend Bilal and maybe that was the turning point for him.

He's been by Teresa through some bad times and has earned her respect as well as Pote's. When called upon, Geroge is ready to put in the dirty work for his boss. King George is easily the comic relief of Queen of the South and the most eccentric character on the show.

2 Pote Galvez

The loyal soldier has been a throne in Teresa's side or her guardian angel. Even when Pote was ordered to kill, he just saw something in Teresa that made him rethink his position with Epifanio. Pote is a Sicario who knew no fears or boundaries until he started to protect Teresa. For him, Epifanio was a job. In the same breath, what he does for Teresa is like protecting a daughter. The love is real between these two.

Pote has been through the wringer as well. He's protected not only Teresa but Kelly Anne and Tony. Although protecting Tony was a part of the job, keeping Kelly Anne alive was not. There are not too many places that Teresa will go and Pote is not by her side. This is one of the best relationships on Primetime TV at the moment.

1 Teresa Mendoza

Teresa has come a long way since being a money exchanger. She met the love of her life, lost him, found him again, became a drug mule, was almost sold into prostitution, became a partner in a crime organization and then became a boss of a growing cartel. Talk about beating the odds.

Teresa is calculating and although she may do somethings pretty random, her endgame is to run the south by any means necessary. This was never the life she wanted but the one that was presented to her and she took advantage of the opportunity. Teresa is no angel and yet, the writers have made us cheer for a female Tony Montana.
