Netflix Docuseries Conversations With a Killer Profiles Ted Bundy

Netflix is set to debut Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, a four-part docuseries about the infamous serial killer. True crime has of course become a Netflix staple in recent years, thanks to the success of series like Making a Murderer, Evil Genius and many others. The recently-premiered second season of Making a Murderer again captured the imagination of America, proving that true crime remains one of the most popular genres among Netflix viewers.

Serial killers are of course always compelling subjects for both documentary and fiction filmmakers, and Netflix already has an abundance of content that delves into that terrifying world. On the fictional side of things, the streamer features Mindhunter, the compelling series from David Fincher that weaves real serial killers into a narrative following an FBI profiler as he attempts to comprehend the minds of psychopaths and use the insights gleaned to help with open investigations. Season 2 of Mindhunter is likely set to arrive in 2019, and will feature characters based on Charles Manson, David Berkowitz, Dennis Rader and others.

The real story of Ted Bundy is also set to arrive on Netflix in January, as the streamer will debut the true crime docuseries Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes (via Deadline). The four episode series will employ never-before-released audio interviews with Bundy as he waited on death row in Florida before being executed in the electric chair in 1989. Set to debut on January 24 - marking the 30th anniversary of Bundy's death - the series will focus "on the man whose personality, good looks and social graces defied the serial-killer stereotype."

Nicknamed "Lady Killer" not only for his crimes but also for his charm and handsomeness, Bundy confessed to 30 murders committed in multiple states between 1974 and 1978. In fact, no one knows for sure how many victims Bundy may have claimed during his five-year reign of terror across the American Northwest. Bundy would later be depicted by Mark Harmon in the TV movie The Deliberate Stranger, and would also serve as the partial inspiration for the Silence of the Lambs character Buffalo Bill.

Bundy is set to return to the big screen again as Zac Efron tackles the challenge of playing the serial killer in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The gruesome crimes of Ted Bundy obviously continue to cast a spell over people even four decades later, and Netflix is banking that their new docuseries Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes can tap into that well of fascination and become yet another true crime hit.
