Godzilla: King of the Monsters Trailer Gets Recreated Using Toho Footage

Godzilla fan has recreated the new trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters using footage from the Toho Godzilla movies. The character of Godzilla may have been Americanized for Hollywood blockbusters, but in 1954, Toho released the first Godzilla film. The film was titled Gojira, and revolved around a giant creature that attacked Shinagawa, after being created by American nuclear weapons testing.

Over the years, Toho released dozens of Godzilla movies, many of which introduced fan-favorite characters such as Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. Godzilla went on to inspire many American monster movies such as Cloverfield, and even received a few American-produced movies. In 1998, Matthew Broderick starred in a movie that featured Godzilla destroying New York City, and in 2014, Gareth Edwards directed Godzilla for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. With the few number of American Godzilla films, the Toho films are often considered the best Godzilla films around.

Now that a sequel for Edwards' Godzilla is nearing, a YouTuber by the name GORIZARD has taken the audio from the Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer and mashed it together with footage from the classic Toho films. Since Toho has released over 30 films in the Godzilla franchise, the YouTuber had plenty of footage to choose from, most of which match the audio perfectly. GORIZARD's full creation can be seen below.

While Godzilla: King of the monsters is still about five months away, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have done a great job of building anticipation for their next giant monster movie. While the second trailer for Godzilla 2 released a few days ago, the movie studios have periodically updated their Monarch website to share information about the monsters and to track Godzilla. The website has even brought certain events from Toho films into the MonsterVerse canon, and also showed Godzilla swimming to Skull Island.

Since both the Japanese and American Godzilla films have strong fan bases, both franchises are continuing strong to this day. While Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be premiering in May, Godzilla will square off against King Kong in 2020 in Godzilla vs. KongToho has also released several Godzilla films in the past few years including Shin Godzilla in 2016, and most recently two animated features called Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle and Godzilla: The Planet Eater.

While Godzilla: King of the Monsters will feature updated versions of Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah, their appearances in Toho's films are remembered fondly by fans. Many of the creatures in old Godzilla movies just featured a guy in a rubber suit, but fans have continued to love these films even though the effects today may look a bit cheesy. With that in mind, this fan-made trailer is able to successfully bring these two franchises together to please fans of both the Toho films, and the American Godzilla movies.
