Marvel Studios still has a few MCU films yet to come before Phase 3 comes to an end, but we're already starting to learn a lot about what Phase 4 will hold. Of course, almost none of this is "official" just yet, as Marvel is remaining quiet in regards to almost anything that comes after Avengers 4.
Since its inception, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been grouped together by phases. It began in Phase 1 as five films built up to the sixth movie, The Avengers in 2012, the franchise's first mega-crossover event. The MCU's Phase 2 immediately followed it with a total of six films as well, although Avengers: Age of Ultron was actually the fifth film, as Ant-Man served as a bridge between the MCU's Phase 2 and Phase 3. The latter kicked off with Captain America: Civil War in 2016, and Phase 3 will end after 10 movies with Avengers 4.

The grand 10-movie lineup was originally announced by Marvel Studios in 2014, but they've decided to not yet confirm their MCU Phase 4 plans. This announcement will come in the future, and likely as soon as 2019 at either San Diego Comic-Con or D23 Expo. Even though Marvel hasn't confirming anything thus far, we actually know quite a bit about what movies are coming up in the MCU's Phase 4.

Spider-Man: Far From Home
The only film that is officially confirmed by Marvel Studios is Spider-Man: Far From Home. The film is not only a sequel to 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, the MCU's successful reboot of the web-slinger, but also will be the first movie to come out after Avengers 4. How Tom Holland is able to reprise his role as Peter Parker isn't yet known, though. Spidey's next adventure will take him overseas with a full cast of classmates returning, like Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Zendaya as Michelle.
Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Far From Home's villain, Mysterio, while Michael Keaton is also returning as Vulture and rumors continue to point to other foes appearing. Additionally, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) are back to their spy ways it appears. Spider-Man: Far From Home is once again directed by Jon Watts and hits theaters July 5, 2019.

Black Widow
Scarlett Johansson is finally getting a Black Widow solo movie. She's been playing Natasha Romanoff since Iron Man 2 in 2010, but it will take Marvel Studios nearly a decade to let her shine on her own. The Black Widow movie is written by Jac Schaeffer, who appears to have gotten her foot in the door with Marvel through work on Captain Marvel. This will be the MCU's second solo female-led movie, but they've hired Cate Shortland to direct, thus making her the first woman to solely direct one of their films. Plot details on the movie have yet to be confirmed, but character breakdowns have begun to add some insight. Production is expected to begin in 2019 and will make Black Widow likely hit theaters in early 2020.

The Eternals
Marvel Studios has thrived turning lesser known characters into giant franchises, and all signs point to The Eternals being their next attempt. Based on the Jack Kirby creation, The Eternals will follow an ancient race of super-powered beings of the same name. Character breakdowns have revealed the Eternals' full roster, with several of the main Eternals heroes set to appear. Marvel previously hired Chloe Zhao (The Rider) to direct The Eternals, and she'll do so on the back of a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The film is estimated to begin production in the second half of 2019, which should put it on track for a late 2020 release.

Black Panther 2
One of Marvel's biggest hits of Phase 3 and of all-time was Black Panther and it is no surprise that Black Panther 2 is set to be a staple of Marvel's Phase 4. Although it was long assumed that Ryan Coogler would return to direct, his involvement in the sequel was up in the air for months. He's officially signed on to write and direct Black Panther 2 and will be working on the script throughout 2019.

Marvel is said to have their eyes set on late-2019 or early-2020 as the starting point for production. The sequel is still in the early stages of development, but it will see Chadwick Boseman reprise his role as T'Challa in the lead. Fans should also expect to see Letitia Wright (Shuri), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), and Winston Duke (M'Baku) all return. With Marvel Studios and Disney already claiming an early February 2021 release date for a currently untitled movie, it should be expected that Black Panther 2 returns to the same release window that helped make the first film able to gross over $1.2 billion.

Shang-Chi
The newest movie revealed to be in Marvel's plans is Shang-Chi. The project has been something Marvel Studios has wanted to make since 2005, but it has not received much attention ever since the MCU took off. Marvel has now hired David Callaham to write Shang-Chi's script, which could be the franchise's first Asian-led superhero movie. Shang-Chi is a master of kung fu that was trained to be an assassin from a young age, but was able to turn away from his evil family and become a force for good. Marvel is currently looking for an Asian filmmaker to direct the movie, but there's no shortlist of names thus far. They also will need to find someone to play the lead role, and we've previously given our Shang-Chi suggestions while we wait for casting to actually begin.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Once locked in to being a major film in launching the MCU's Phase 4, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has suffered a tremendous set back. As many are surely aware, Disney fired James Gunn as the director of the third movie over some tweets that resurfaced. The decision has been highly debated ever since, especially since the studios reportedly will still use Gunn's script that the filmmaker had completed prior to his firing.
But, Marvel is taking a step back to assess the situation and have put the movie on indefinite hold for the time being. It's not known how this delay has or will change Marvel's original Phase 4 plans, but it could even result in some roster changes - if Dave Bautista gets his wish. There's been plenty of rumors regarding possible production starts and who could possibly replace Gunn, but all of this is still unconfirmed and unresolved. Given the current situation, it may be unlikely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters before 2021.

Doctor Strange 2
Another Marvel sequel that many thought could be fast-tracked but instead has had confusing updates is Doctor Strange 2. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that they intend to make another film starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme. Finally, following several teases online by Scott Derrickson throughout 2018, the director ultimately signed on to direct Doctor Strange 2 late in the year.
Not too long ago, Benedict Wong suggested that Doctor Strange 2 could begin filming in 2018. While that didn't end up happening, Marvel Studios is currently scouting for a writer to pen the screenplay for the sequel, which they would like to see written in 2019 so that Doctor Strange 2 can enter production sometime in 2020. If the project stays on-track, then Doctor Strange 2 is looking to release sometime in 2021.

Other Sequels
But, if Doctor Strange 2 doesn't make it into the MCU's Phase 4, then there's several other likely sequels that could find a place. Sony and Marvel Studios are going to do (at least) one trilogy of Spider-Man movies led by Holland, so Spider-Man 3 is likely coming in the middle of Phase 4. For Marvel's other franchises, a sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp could be in the cards after the sequel made over $600 million worldwide.
And even though Brie Larson has yet to even make her debut as Carol Danvers, a successful first film should guarantee that Captain Marvel 2 finds a place in Marvel's Phase 4. These three films are not confirmed to be in development right now though, but their statuses could change once Marvel officially reveals their Phase 4 plans, or should additional reports reveal new information.
