Jason Momoa and Amber Heard hysterically recall filming a specific deleted scene in Aquaman in which Arthur Curry/Aquaman drags Mera through the water. Even though their characters are literally at home in the ocean, the same can't be said for the actors who play them.
Directed by James Wan, the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC movie will reunite fans with Arthur Curry (Momoa) after his official debut in Zack Snyder's Justice League (following his brief cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). It serves as the King of the Seven Seas' origin story in the DCEU and follows Arthur as he returns to Atlantis to claim his place as the rightful heir to the throne. However, it's not a walk in the park for the hybrid hero, considering that his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) stands in his way. Thankfully, he has Mera (Heard) to help him fight his way to the throne. However, behind the scenes, Momoa and Heard weren't quite as savvy with water as they are in the movie.

Sitting down with EW to promote Aquaman, Momoa and Heard talked about a specific awkward scene in which their characters are meant to effortlessly enter the surface world from underwater. The scene involves Arthur pulling Mera out of the water, which turned out to be difficult for the actors while filming. Though Momoa was able to accomplish it, Heard struggled - not only due to the strong waves, but also on account of her heels. The sequence was ultimately cut from the film, but Momoa and Heard reflect on their time spent filming amusedly.
With Aquaman hitting theaters by the end of the week, fans won't have to wait that long to see Wan's contribution to the DCEU lore. Despite the movie tackling more of a self-contained narrative, with no appearance from other characters from the bigger franchise it belongs to, it marks Warner Bros.' return to the superhero movie arena after year-long hiatus coming off of the financial disappointment, Justice League. However, while the film has yet to hit theaters in North America, it's already opened in several international markets including China, where it scored DC's best debut since Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Adapting Aquaman onto the big screen poses a lot of challenges. Not only does the movie have to effectively squash the character's usual goofy persona in the pages of the comics and animated TV series so that he might be taken seriously, but the elaborate VFX work underwater demands significant time and effort to nail down. Its underwater setting also subjected its cast to difficult filming situations, like what Momoa and Heard described. However, despite the difficulties they faced, it appears as though they had a genuinely great time working on the film - which is a good thing, considering that Warner Bros. is supposedly already discussing their plans for a sequel.
