Adria Arjona in Talks to Join Morbius with Jared Leto

Adria Arjona is in talks to play Martine Bancroft in Sony's Morbius movie starring Jared Leto. After the incredible box office performance of Venom, the studio's shared universe plans are being solidified. Development is underway on another Tom Hardy led film, but the next film will be a Morbius the Living Vampire movie.

Sony pushed the project further into development late last year, but secured Leto as their Dr. Michael Morbius this past summer. At the same time of casting Leto, they also announced that Daniel Espinosa will be directing the solo movie. The film is currently in the casting process to fill a number of key roles alongside Leto. Character breakdowns revealed who the villain will be, as well as confirmation that Morbius' usual love interest Martine Bancroft will be the female lead. Despite the knowledge of these two roles being included in the film, there were not yet any reports as to who could fill them. While the villain role still needs to be filled, it appears Morbius may have found its Martine.

Deadline is reporting that Adria Arjona is in talks to play the female lead in Morbius opposite of Leto. Arjona received her breakout roles on TV shows like True Detective and Emerald City, but has recently made the transition to movies too. She starred in the James Gunn produced The Belko Experiment and this year's Pacific Rim: Uprising. Her filmography will be even larger by the time Morbius hits theaters with roles in Netflix's Triple Frontier and 6 Underground scheduled for next year, and if this deal closes, it will add another big time production to her upcoming slate.

Martine Bancroft was created by Ray Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971 and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #102. She is Morbius' fiancée in the comics and is the first to discover the very first victim of Morbius' bloodlust. Throughout her comic history, Martine has gone on to betray Morbius and even become a vampire herself. She is currently dead in the comics after Morbius himself killed her.

Arjona is clearly a rising talent in the industry, so this could prove to be a casting decision that fans are even more excited for as her future projects hit. She is currently the only other cast member attached to Morbius outside of its star, but that shouldn't remain for long with the start of production in February 2019 right around the corner. Thanks to Sony's future release date announcements, it appears Morbius will hit theaters in the summer of 2020, so Arjona and Leto should be joined by even more cast members in the coming weeks.
