The once lost video for Will Smith’s A Nightmare On Elm Street-inspired song, called "A Nightmare On My Street," has resurfaced after 30 years. Freddy Krueger quickly became a pop culture icon following the release of the original A Nightmare On Elm Street, and in addition to numerous sequels, he had a TV series dubbed Freddy’s Nightmares and even had his own album dubbed Freddy’s Greatest Hits.
Hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - aka Will Smith - recorded a song called "A Nightmare On My Street" for their 1988 album He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper. The song was considered for inclusion in A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, but the movie's producers ultimately decided not to use it. Nonetheless the single was released and a music video was shot, but following a lawsuit from franchise owners New Line Cinema the single came packaged with a disclaimer stating it had no official connection to the series, and the music video was apparently destroyed.

Almost nothing was known about the content of the "A Nightmare On My Street" music video, but earlier this week some images from the shoot emerged. Now, over 30 years later, a YouTube user named Nancy Thompson has uploaded the complete video. The promo is of rough quality, but given that many assumed the music video was just a myth, it’s great to finally see it.
Robert Englund’s Freddy doesn’t appear, which is likely the result of New Line rejecting the song. In his place is a freakish creature in a leather jacket with strange cyber enhancements. The video is shot in a style aping the dream scenes from A Nightmare On Elm Street, and while it’s clearly meant as a loving parody of the series, New Line obviously didn’t feel the same way. Both the video and the song are quite dated now, but it's still cool to see it resurface after so long.
There’s been renewed interest in A Nightmare On Elm Street following Robert Englund’s recent guest appearance as Freddy Krueger on The Goldbergs. The actor said he might be up for one more movie as the character, and co-star Heather Langenkamp recently said she’d be up for another movie, too. Given the smash success of Blumhouse’s Halloween, it feels like only a matter of time before official studio talk of a new movie emerges.
