Sorry, Ronald McDonald Won't Be in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Unfortunately, Ronald McDonald won't be featured as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when it launches on the Nintendo Switch next month. McDonald's has jokingly confirmed that there are no plans for its mascot to make an appearance in the upcoming crossover fighting game.

Officially announced at E3 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Ultimate will bring back every fighter in the history of the series, including DLC characters from the last installment and forgotten fighters from 17 years ago, such as Young Link and Pichu. As if 63 characters isn't enough, the game will also add a total of 11 new challengers, including Donkey Kong Country villain King K. Rool, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, and Metroid's Ridley. At the beginning of the month, Nintendo unveiled Incineroar and Ken as the game's final two fighters.

After a fan asked about rumors of Ronald McDonald joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, McDonald's Canada Twitter replied by confirming that the popular mascot won't be a playable character in the new game "as of right now." Fans have responded with memes and jokes about being disappointed over the fast food mascot's absence from the roster. Some are humorously suggesting that Ronald McDonald be added as DLC instead.

While no one is actually expecting Ronald McDonald to have any kind of role in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there's a reason so many diverse characters are being suggested for inclusion. Over the years, Super Smash Bros. has cultivated a reputation as the ultimate video game crossover series. What began as a franchise focused entirely around Nintendo characters has grown to encompass characters from multiple companies. Super Smash Bros. now includes Sega's mascot Sonic the Hedgehog, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, and Pac-Man, the original video game protagonist.

When it comes to guest characters for Ultimate, Fans are talking about everyone from Dragon Ball's Goku, characters from Assassin's Creed, Banjo & Kazooie, the fan-created mashup Bowsette, Shrek, and Waluigi. Of course, only a few of these are actually realizable.

The final roster for Ultimate has already been confirmed, but DLC fighters are already in development. Piranha Plant will be added as a free post-launch character for a limited time, while five more will be added as paid DLC between the beginning of 2019 and February 2020.
