Does Overlord Have A Post-Credits Scene?

The J.J. Abrams-produced Overlord is a fun B-movie that inserts zombie-Nazis into a pivotal moment of World War II - but does it have a post-credits scene teasing a potential sequel? Since the movie was first announced as a supernatural WWII thriller produced by Abrams, fans started to speculate Overlord might be a secret Cloverfield movie. After all, the science fiction franchise has become well known for surprising its fans. However, when the first trailer for Overlord released, it teased a contained story set in WWII - albeit one that includes zombie Nazis. Further, the trailer seemingly confirmed Overlord isn't a Cloverfield movie, to the disappointment of some.

Instead, Overlord is a standalone horror thriller about a group of Allied troops who enter into enemy territory on the eve of D-Day in an effort to take down a radio tower. However, when one member of the squad - Joven Adepo's Boyce - discovers a secret underground laboratory in which a Nazi scientist is horrifically experimenting on both the living and the dead, their mission changes. The trailers for Overlord have showcased plenty of zombie horror and early reviews for the movie were decidedly positive, generating a great deal of buzz for the film directed by Julius Avery.

Now, those checking out Overlord in theaters may be wondering if there's anything after the credits, potentially setting up a sequel or confirming the movie actually is part of the Cloverfield franchise. Unfortunately, Overlord does NOT have a post-credits scene, nor is it part of the Cloverfield universe. The movie wraps up completely before the credits role and remains firmly standalone.

Post-credits scenes or other sequel teases have become increasingly popular in Hollywood over the years. Their popularity was no doubt boosted by Marvel Studios, who made sticking around for post-credits scenes a necessary part of the moviegoing experience for Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Of course, since post-credits scenes are often used to set up or tease sequels, they're more likely to be included in franchise films or movies expected to launch a franchise. However, Overlord appears to be completely standalone, without much room left for a potential sequel. As such, it makes scenes for the movie not to include a post-credits scene.

That said, movies can also include post-credits scenes that simply continue the story of the film without necessarily setting up a sequel. Typically, those scenes usually offer one last joke in a movie, which doesn't quite fit with the style and tone of Overlord. So again, it makes sense for Avery's movie not to include a post-credits scene.

While moviegoers catching Overlord may be disappointed that the film doesn't have a post-credits scene, it does make sense for this particular release. Besides, considering the reviews of Overlord, there's plenty to enjoy about the movie that viewers will have an entertaining experience nonetheless.
