Cold Pursuit Trailer: Don't Mess With Liam Neeson & His Snowplow

Liam Neeson is a vengeful snowplow driver in the trailer for his next action-thriller, Cold Pursuit. A remake of the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance, Cold Pursuit was previously titled Hard Powder and is being helmed by In Order of Disappearance's director, Hans Petter Moland. Naturally, the movie has already drawn many a joking comparison between its premise and that for The Simpsons season 4 episode "Mr. Plow", in which Homer launches a lucrative snow-plowing business.

Neeson stars in Cold Pursuit as Nels Coxman, a respected citizen of an affluent Rocky Mountains resort town who spends his days keeping the winter roads clear with his snowplow. However, when his son is murdered by a local drug lord, Nels uses his particular set of skills (sorry, had to be done) to transform himself into a deadly hunter and take the criminal's forces apart, piece by piece. The film was written by relative newcomer Frank Baldwin and costars Laura Dern (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Emmy Rossum (Shameless) and Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express), among others.

Lionsgate/Summit have now released the first Cold Pursuit trailer online, ahead of its debut in theaters with the studios' submarine thriller Hunter Killer this weekend. Check it out in the space below.

Judging by its trailer, Cold Pursuit largely falls in line with Neeson's pulpy action-thrillers from the past few years, when it comes to tone and style. At the same time, Moland's In Order of Disappearance mixes action with dark comedy and the Cold Pursuit synopsis claims the U.S. remake will be similarly "infused with irreverent humor". Neeson, for his part, has already been more than willing to poke fun at his post-Taken tough guy persona with comedies like The LEGO Movie and A Million Ways to Die in the West, so a move into action-comedy territory with Cold Pursuit seems like a natural progression for him.

Neeson's action-thrillers have carved out a profitable niche for themselves from January to March in recent years and Cold Pursuit will follow suit by launching into theaters on February 8, 2019. The film will open against three other wide releases that weekend, including the Taraji P. Henson-led comedy What Men Want, horror flick The Prodigy, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (which, sadly, does not appear to include Neeson's Good Cop/Bad Cop). Seeing as there's not a whole lot of overlap between those movies and Cold Pursuit, Neeson's snowplow revenge thriller shouldn't have too much trouble attracting a respectably-sized crowd at the winter box office next year.
