Spider-Man PS4 Includes Fun Reference to Tom Holland's Web Slinger

Fun references to Tom Holland's version of Spidey will be included in the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game. Spider-Man has been completely reintroduced in mainstream media in recent years. Marvel and Sony agreed to a deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and cast a charismatic and acrobatic Holland to play the live-action version. Miles Morales is even getting a starring role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but it will be Peter Parker (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal) taking the lead in Spider-Man.

Unlike his last game that based on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games is telling a completely original and open-city story in Spider-Man. This has given the game incredible freedom to include as many characters and references to Spider-Man lore as it deems necessary, and it appears one of them will be a nod to Holland's portrayal.

Marvel's Spider-Man game has a subtle but fun reference to one of Spider-Man: Homecoming's jokes: Peter's lost backpacks. Holland's version of Spidey frequently loses his backpack, which isn't great for him as he leaves his clothes and other personal belongings in it when he being the friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man. Here's an example of what they look like:

This is just one simple reference to the current live-action Spider-Man, but it is more than just a gimmick. In the game, players will be able to locate and collect dozens of Peter's misplaced bags. Once the webbed bags have been found, they can be unwebbed and searched to see what Peter left behind in this one. There's several Easter eggs and additional fun callbacks to the game's version of Spidey and overall Spider-Man lore. With over 50 of the bags located all around Manhattan, it may take some time for gamers to locate them all - but it'll certainly be worth it, because finding all of them will result in yet another Homecoming Easter egg... of sorts.

The reveal of these backpacks comes just hours before Spider-Man officially launches on PS4. Reviews for the game have been rather impressive, and you can read Screen Rant's own review right here. With Spidey fans set to dive into the game this weekend, many will surely attempt to find all of these bags before too long. The story mode on the default setting takes roughly 20 hours to complete, but those on easier or harder difficulties time in the story will differ. But, with the ability to ignore the story and just swing across Manhattan, players can always decide to prioritize these side quests first before finishing up the story. Either way, it's clear Spider-Man packs plenty of adventures, content, and references.
