Paper Mario for N64 was recently released on the Nintendo Switch for those with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. This N64 classic is filled with secret areas and cheats to help Mario and his companions navigate their paper world on their quest to rescue Princess Peach.
There are hidden easter eggs scattered around the game. Players can find Luigi's secret basement by stomping around the ground outside Mario and Luigi's bedroom using the Super Boots. The stomping will flip a tile, which reveals the entrance to the basement containing Luigi's diary. For the second secret in Paper Mario, players can find original NES Mario in Boo Mansion. To find him, players should enter the room with the jar in it across from the main entrance to Boo Mansion and jump in the jar. Players will now be playing as NES Mario, and they can jump back in the jar or leave the room to change back to their paper form.
Also in Boo Mansion, players can frighten Luigi if they exit Boo Mansion prior to acquiring Lady Bow. Players should return to Toad Town and enter Mario's room. Players will find floorboards they can go through, and they will find a surprised Luigi writing in his diary in the basement. Of note, triggering this scene will not impact obtaining Luigi's diary or the story.
There are several cheats that can make battling in Paper Mario easier. For instance, if the player tells the Buzzard enemy on Mt. Rugged that their name is Luigi, they will not have to fight him. Another skippable fight is Anti-Guy, the Shy Guy found in Shy Guy's Toy Box. To avoid fighting him and obtain the chest he is protecting with an attack power+ badge, players should gift him a Lemon Candy. To make a Lemon Candy, players should bring Tayce T. a Lemon (obtainable in the Dry Dry Desert) and Cake Mix. Of note, if players give Anti-Guy the Lemon Candy, he will never return and they will not be able to gain XP from the fight. Additionally, Mario or his partners can perform an FP-consuming attack, like a Spin Jump, outside of battle and get lucky with a First Strike, they will automatically use that attack in battle without using any FP.
In Paper Mario's Toad Town, there is a secret area in the pipe with the sign next to it that says "PRIVATE". Once players have acquired the Stone Hammer, they can use it to break the stone block to the left. Once the stone is broken, players will be able to go through a tunnel and encounter a Giant Blooper enemy. Once players defeat the Giant Blooper, three warp pipes will appear that lead to Goomba City, Koopa Village, and Dry Dry Outpost. Another hidden location in Toad Town is the playroom, where players can earn money from playing games. To find it, players should go left from the Li'l Oink Farm and hit the tree blocking their path with the hammer to cause a warp pipe to appear. This pipe will transport the player to the playroom, but they will need a Silver or Gold card to play.
Finally, Paper Mario's Merlee is a witch who lives in a secret location in Dry Dry Outpost. To find her, players should travel down the ally next to Toad's House in Dry Dry Outpost. Players can find the hidden area by jumping over the box in the alley. Here, Merlee will allow the player to purchase spells to assist them in battle.
Paper Mario is now available to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack and for the N64.
