2022 looks like could end up being the year of Disney+. The streamer will be releasing a bevy of high-profile content, all in a weekly format. It has fans everywhere excited. Most notable, both the Star Wars galaxy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be significantly expanded.
With the introduction of new, hotly-anticipated characters as well as the long-awaited reintroduction of some favorites from 1980s fantasy cinema, Disney+ plus is going to make a point of giving the people what they want in the next year. With the selection on schedule, the gift appears to keep on giving for the foreseeable future.
A prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney+'s series Andor is going to give audiences more time with Diego Luna's titular character.
Redditor Not_a-replicant did a good job boiling down the appeal to revisiting this chunk of the Star Wars universe. "For me, it's simple - the idea of a rebel spy intrigues me. From the second we were introduced to him in RO when he kills the informant, I wanted a backstory of him. I think you've got really strong leads in Luna and Tudyk. I think it's an interesting premise during an interesting era of Star Wars. And I can't wait to see the Rebels become the Rebel Alliance." The scenes of Andor being a lone-wolf spy were few and far between in Rogue One, so the Redditor is right in saying there's an appeal to delving further into Star Wars espionage.
Featuring Orphan Black's wildly talented Tatiana Maslany, She-Hulk looks to be another major win for the MCU.
Redditors are very excited for more Hulking out, with Duck-smooth saying "I cannot wait for She-Hulk." Nyeehhsquidward got more specific, referencing current Avenger Bruce Banner. "I'm excited for She-Hulk, especially since it means we get to see Banner again and hopefully get some backstory for the Professor Hulk transformation." The latter point is interesting as it's true that there wasn't much explanation for Hulk's appearance in Avengers: Endgame.
Releasing on December 29th, 2021, The Book of Boba Fett will be opened in the very near future. Unsurprisingly, Redditors are intensely clamoring.
Redditor Wretched__hive said "I can't believe this is actually happening. Dreams do come true!" Hepatat agreed via a metaphor: "Boba Fett going full Godfather and I'm here for it. One of those Trandoshan captains are definitely getting a bantha head in the bed if they talk back to him."
Certainly one of Disney+'s most anticipated non-Star Wars or MCU shows, this sequel to Ron Howard's 1988 fantasy film of the same name has been a long time coming.
A couple of Redditors had something to say about Willow and, specifically, Warwick Davis (Leprechaun). Westbee said, "Can't wait!!" then stated how Davis was 17 years old when the film was released and is 50 years old now. Halcykhan expanded, saying "One of the most underrated performances. At that age to deliver leading presence and maturity in a big-budget fantasy epic against the rest of the cast and characters, which stood the test of time, does not get enough credit."
Ms. Marvel is the MCU's latest effort to improve representation in superhero storytelling. People are very excited for this and, specifically, the translation of her interesting powers to the (small) silver screen.
Uncomfortablebases says "I just need Ms. Marvel so bad I cannot wait." PembunuhUpahan said something similar: "I'm so excited for Ms. Marvel." Nyeehhsquidward then came in and made a point about Ms. Marvel's relative lack of popularity: "I don't know a whole lot about the character of Ms. Marvel, but I'm always excited for new heroes to debut." Ms. Marvel, A.K.A. Kamala Khan, isn't the most famous of Avengers, but she is well regarded. Once Khan makes her official debut, it stands to reason she'll ascend the popularity roster very quickly.
Spider-Man: Freshman Year will be a Disney+ animated series that serves as a prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. As expected, it's already generating plenty of MCU fan questions.
User LittleDinamit has mixed feelings on it but acknowledges that it opens the door for more Spidey theatrical sequels. In the Redditor's words: "...I'm optimistic this prequel means we'll see the continuation of Peter's story in live-action. I would prefer that since they could do whatever stories they wanted with whatever characters they wanted."
When the casting announcement was made for Obi-Wan, fans went into a happy uproar. Cast members they never thought would enter the universe again are back, and the series appears to be precisely what fans wanted.
But fans like Chosser91 hope for even more: "Looks awesome! Hoping for a secret Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman cameo at some point." Portman's inclusion isn't out of the realm of possibility, but a Qui-Gon cameo seems the most likely. If so, he's just one more reason to be excited about the show.
MCU aficionados were introduced to zombies in What If? but they'll soon be spending an extended period of time with the superheroic undead.
Redditor AlexeyShved1 posited that Marvel Zombies "...could be a really good show if done well. Also cool knowing Marvel's willing to (make) series like this." Time will tell how this particular show lines up and fits in with the remainder of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Redditor makes a good point in acknowledging that it's very different from the remainder.
Fans got a taste of the Moon Knight series via its Disney+ Day teaser and the reaction was intense. He's a relatively little-known Marvel character, but with Oscar Isaac providing the performance, Moon Knight may soon become one of the main parts of the MCU.
Redditor Squawkimo agreed with the character's lack of notoriety with "Why am I most excited for Moon Knight and remember very little from the comics?" ImnotthatguyIswear replied with: "Moon Knight is a badass and that vibe is all the info you need to be excited. That's why."
The MCU's Secret Invasion serves as a partial sequel to Captain Marvel, particularly in regards to the Skrulls. As seen in that film, villains aren't always what they appear to be. In fact, a supposed villain isn't always a villain at all.
This invasion premise can be stretched to include the larger MCU. All of these alien races have an objective in mind, and some objectives are as simple as survival. Kingmob555 said, "The very concept begs for cameos, so I hope they can maintain or match our expectations."
