Katie Maloney opened up about her fertility and her decision to reveal her abortion, after speaking about it during a recent episode of Vanderpump Rules. Tom and Katie have been a part of the show since its first season, quickly becoming fan favorites. Although their relationship is solid now, the couple never shied away from sharing the rough patches they had. In the early seasons, there was a lot of arguing between the two about just about everything. Many of their problems revolved around Katie drinking and rage texting, and also Tom's infidelity. Before getting married, Tom revealed to Katie that he cheated on her while in Vegas with the boys. Just like in season 3, he lied about it for a while before coming clean.
Tom is not the only cast member Katie had major blowouts with, only to reconcile in the end. She and her former costar Stassi Schroeder started the show as best friends, but had a falling out prior to Stassi leaving the show. Stassi was upset with Katie for choosing to stay friends with cast mates Kristen Doute and Jax Taylor after she found out they had hooked up when Stassi and Jax were still dating. She cut Katie, and the rest of the group out of her life and moved to New York with her boyfriend at the time Patrick Meagher. She moved back after their breakup and after begging for forgiveness, managed to get back in everyone's good graces.
Katie is now opening up about her fertility struggles and her decision to discuss her abortion on the show. During a recent interview on the Reality Life With Kate Casey podcast, Katie said it was a difficult decision to come to, but she is happy she did it. Katie was certain from the start of the season that she wanted to be open with viewers about her struggle to conceive. She said that in order to explain the full scope of their struggle, they needed to be honest about their past, and that included admitting to having had an abortion. Katie explained that keeping the abortion a secret felt separated from the rest of society, and it felt good for her to be able to connect with audiences on a more serious topic. She claims she decided to share her experience in an effort to get a better understanding of her own emotions surrounding it.
It will be interesting to hear Katie and Tom further discuss their struggles with fertility on the show. Typically the Vanderpump Rules gang argues about petty gossip and cheating scandals, and it is nice to see content audiences can relate to. It will be interesting to see if Katie continues to be so open and vulnerable on the show as the season goes on.
