An Elder Scrolls fan's dream to become a fully-fledged Necromancer in Skyrim has been finally realized with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition's Creation Club add-on, Necromantic Grimoire. With this DLC installed, players will be able to summon all manner of ghostly apparitions, such as skeletal warriors, specters, and even a giant Bone Colossus. Necromantic players can also look the part by donning sleek, new, necromancer-themed attire.
Players should bear in mind that they must own Skryim's Anniversary Edition to access the Creation Club content for Necromantic Grimoire, as it's not included in the release's free update. Another important detail to note is that players should ensure they've adequately leveled their Magicka and Conjuration tree since the new necromancy spells require a large pool of Magicka to be cast. Players can find many of the Necromantic Grimoire tomes within the chests of dungeons guarded by necromancers. Alternatively, most of the spells can also be purchased from a particular NPC who is well-educated in the dark arts.
The most straightforward method of obtaining the Necromantic Grimoire spells in Skyrim is visiting Phinis Gestor, a Breton mage who studies at the College of Winterhold. As someone who furtively practices necromancy, he will sell the player a varied selection of the Necromantic Grimoire tomes. If he doesn't happen to have all the books the player needs during one visit, characters can visit him another time or use the "wait" mechanic so he refreshes his stock. While Phinis usually is in the Hall of Countenance, he sometimes can be found in The Arcanaeum. Because players will need to reach a certain level before being able to cast the spells, some Master tomes will not appear in Phinis' inventory until players have reached the max level in Conjuration.
In the unfortunate case of Phinis not carrying one of the remaining necromancy tomes players need in Skyrim, they will need to hunt for them in dungeons controlled by necromancers. As for the new outfits, players can find the first variant of the Necromancer Robes and Hood at Ilinalta's Deep, a fort located on the northwest shore of Lake Ilinalta in Falkreath Hold.
The more aesthetically pleasing Elite Necromancer apparel can be found in Yngvild, a remote ice cave on an island directly east of Dawnstar. The dungeon's boss, Arondil, will be wearing the desired attire. Players can also find an unenchanted variant of the Necromancer Robes and Hood in a side room of the boss's lair. They should keep in mind that the two dungeons mentioned are not the only locations in Skyrim that players can find the robes. Items tied to Necromantic Grimoire can also potentially spawn in other regions and even in unmarked spots in the wild at random.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
