The Scarlet Witch counts some of the most powerful villains in all of Marvel Comics among her enemies. Given how powerful she is, it's not strange that her enemies would be equally powerful and in many cases, more so. As an Avenger and member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Wanda Maximoff has faced off against the best of the best.
The last two decades in the comics have mostly cast the Scarlet Witch as a villain herself, especially after the House Of M event, but she's now the victim. One of her many enemies is behind her death in current X-Men comics, though it's not the end for the powerful sorceress. It could be for her killer, given Wanda's erratic and often destructive behavior in the past.
10 Mystique
Mystique is among the most likely suspects in the murder of the Scarlet Witch, which is taking lots of twists and turns in The Trial Of Magneto limited series. That Mystique even had a shot at Wanda speaks to how powerful she is. Mystique is well known for her ability to shapeshift, and she can become anyone at all so convincingly no one can tell.
Mystique's ability to shapeshift may have allowed her to impersonate Magneto and get the drop on Wanda, a cruel gap in the Scarlet Witch's otherwise spectacular defenses that stem from her skill in chaos magic.
9 Professor X
Professor X is one of the most powerful telepaths alive, with the ability via Cerebro to record the minds of mutants in total. He has used this gift against Wanda in the past when she was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and an enemy of the X-Men, circumventing her practical ability by directly attacking her mind.
But he has also used his power against her when they were ostensibly allies. Prior to the events of House of M, a storyline that inspired some of WandaVision, Xavier psychically bullied Wanda to forget her children, which ultimately led her to lash out in shocking ways.
8 Magneto
Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants alive, with complete control of magnetism. This power has allowed him to achieve stupendous feats in the comics, ranging from ripping all the adamantium off of Wolverine's body in the '90s Fatal Attraction storyline to galvanizing the core of Mars recently.
He and the Scarlet Witch have fought often, their unusual family dynamic leading to lots of personal conflicts when Magneto was a villain or she was. He is currently accused of killing her, as the evidence suggests someone who used metal to slay Wanda.
7 Immortus
Immortus is one of the most powerful variants of Kang the Conqueror in the comics, and once manipulated the Scarlet Witch to try and achieve his ambitions of ruling all of time. Immortus, a future version of Kang, possesses great knowledge about the future and alternate timelines, including the fact that Wanda is a Nexus Being of unbridled power.
Armed with far-future technology, Immortus has destroyed entire timelines, killed other powerful Nexus Beings, and orchestrated events to manipulate Wanda into attacking her own teammates. Even in defeat, he somehow manages to come back stronger as either himself or another variant of Kang.
6 Doctor Doom
Comic book fans know Doctor Doom is one of the most powerful villains of the Fantastic Four, with a genius-level intellect and talent for engineering. He is also one of the Marvel Universe's greatest sorcerers, making him even more dangerous. His knowledge of magic has in some universes made him one of the most powerful variants of Doctor Strange.
Doom once manipulated the Scarlet Witch to try and access the Life Force, leveraging her desperate desire to make her children real again to achieve his own personal aims, including healing his deformed face.
5 Agatha Harkness
Agatha Harkness is one of the most powerful magicians in Marvel Comics. Her power was such that she was able to cast a spell on the Scarlet Witch that made her forget her twin sons, Billy and Tommy, ever existed. This spell stayed in place for years and was only exposed inadvertently in the run-up to Avengers Disassembled and House Of M.
This pitted Wanda against Agatha, who to that point had been her tutor in the mystical arts and one of her biggest supporters. Wanda actually killed Agatha, though she has since come back to life.
4 Thanos
Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and that's before the Infinity Gauntlet. When armed with the cosmic weapon, he was able to alter reality and wiped out half of all life with a snap of his fingers. The Scarlet Witch survived the snap in The Infinity Gauntlet comic book but was later killed confronting Thanos.
Thanos is able to counter Wanda's reality-warping power with the Gauntlet on a cosmic scale. Without it, he would be extremely vulnerable to her broad array of powers.
3 Chthon
Chthon is the source of Chaos Magic in the Marvel Universe, which in turn is the root of Wanda's great power in magic. This ancient mystical entity is responsible for guiding her as a child toward her use of magic as she is a Nexus Being. Chthon has the power to manipulate time and space, as well as control other beings.
Chthon is also the source of the Darkhold, a powerful magical tome. He is infinitely more powerful than Wanda, existing in a magical realm outside of reality, but she represents a powerful counter to him on Earth.
2 Shuma-Gorath
Shuma-Gorath is one of the most powerful villains of Doctor Strange and one of the most intimidating cosmic beings in Marvel Comics. This immortal Lovecraftian creature can destroy entire galaxies with a simple thought. The Scarlet Witch has fought alongside other heroes to try and defeat him, as she did in The Spectacular Spider-Man #132.
Though Wanda and the combined power of other heroes have been able to defeat Shuma-Gorath and even kill him, the creature is immortal and always returns, making him virtually impossible to defeat.
1 Mephisto
Mephisto is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. He can alter time and space as well as disguise himself as anyone he wishes. His power is such that he can invest fragments of his soul in mystical objects, which Wanda unwittingly used to create her twin sons. He ultimately spearheaded a campaign to reclaim the fragments, erasing her children from existence.
Mephisto has proven difficult for anyone to defeat, having bested Galactus in Mephisto's home dimension. He also permanently altered the reality of the Marvel Universe by erasing Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson's marriage from existence. The only two characters to have successfully defeated the villain numerous times are Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom, who once teamed up to free the soul of Doom's mother from Mephisto's imprisonment.
