New World Gold Duplication Glitch Rediscovered Immediately After Patch

MMO New World's players have discovered a new gold duplication glitch in the game immediately after the developer introduced a patch to curb the exploit's abuse. Amazon Games' latest patch disabled all wealth transfers in New World to help curb player abuse of a gold dupe glitch stemming from the return of the game’s server transfer service. Amazon’s supposed fix prevents players from sending currency, accessing the guild treasury and trading post, and trading with other players.

It’s not completely surprising to see that players have resorted to abusing gold duplication exploits in the MMO, since New World recently faced an economic deflation crisis. This was caused by players hoarding their gold due to a lack of ways to earn enough of it to cover many of the game’s costs, such as taxes and gear repairs. The deflation not only caused the cost of the game’s items on its trading post to crash but also forced players to resort to bartering to avoid spending any gold in New World.

Reddit user xAleksas shared their discovery of a fresh New World gold duplication glitch in a post on the game's subreddit. They reveal Amazon disabling wealth transfers in the game has resulted in a new way to initiate a gold dupe exploit. According to them, starting a town upgrade in one of the game’s numerous settlements will result in a situation where the player’s gold is not taken away from them because of the wealth transfer-disabling patch, meaning the upgrade task doesn’t actually begin. However, when the player restarts their game, the cost of the upgrade will supposedly be added to their company wallet.

This new variant of the gold duplication glitch seems clearly linked to the latest New World patch's removal of wealth transfers - however, it appears the change was made without also disabling some of the functions connected to it. In this case, while the New World town upgrade task doesn’t initiate because the gold payment won’t go through, the game probably mistakenly logs that since the upgrade failed to start or complete that the cost should be refunded to the player. The resulting bug is then likely triggered when the player logs out, at which point they receive the unmade payment in their wallet in addition to their unspent gold when they log back in.

Unlike the previous New World gold duplication glitch, which involved players transferring servers, this new exploit only requires players to initiate town upgrades and logging in and out, making it a much easier glitch to abuse. Amazon Games has previously said all gold transactions are recorded in its database to facilitate spotting and banning exploit abusers, so it’s possible those who take advantage of this new gold dupe glitch may find themselves banned sooner or later. It may be easier for the studio to spot offenders this time around now that wealth transfers are supposedly disabled.
