Locke & Key: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability

Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers for the second season of Locke & Key.

The events that the Locke kids have been facing ever since they moved to Keyhouse have been exhilarating and fascinating, but Locke & Key also finds strength in its characters, who may not always be entirely likable but who have the advantage of being well-rounded.

From Dodge to Kinsey and Bode, all the show's characters have flaws but they also have qualities that make them memorable and interesting protagonists. Throughout the show so far, many have had deep storylines that required them to go through a lot of changes, and some managed to become more or less likable along the way.

10 Dodge/Gabe

It's hard to find many redeeming qualities to a character like Dodge. The Echo found in the Keyhouse well is a demonic creature that only seeks power. In the show's first season, they are despicable, manipulative, and evil.

In the second season, however, Dodge (under the disguise of being Gabe) develops a weird attachment to Kinsey that tends to make the character ever creepier than they already were. In the end, Dodge gets defeated by the Lockes, but they remains the most antagonistic character they have encountered so far.

9 Eden Hawkins

When Locke & Key started, Eden was mainly the archetype of the mean school girl who cannot get along with the heroes, especially Kinsey. By the end of the first season though, her character was becoming a bit better. But it didn't last, as she became possessed by a demon.

In the show's second season, Eden is a murderous monster who does Gabe's biding until he gets rid of her, so she decides to go after the keys' powers herself. There is something a little sad about Eden in the fact that she is rejected by all and doesn't seem to find a place where she can belong. However, her numerous bad deeds mean her character seem quite unredeemable and unlikable for the foreseeable future of the Netflix show.

8 Josh Bennett

In Locke & Key's second season, Josh initially appears to be mostly a love interest for Nina Locke, but it quickly turns out that his presence in Matheson has more to do with Keyhouse and the Black Door. Josh first comes across as a know-it-all who critics Nina's work on the school's theater, but he then shows more vulnerability and layers. He isn't a jerk, he's just a widower who doesn't always know how to talk to people.

But Josh is also obsessed with finding the Black Door, which pulls him away from Nina until he realizes too late that it's not going to bring him his late wife back. He isn't unlikable, but he doesn't show his good side often enough to truly be someone fans can root for.

7 Kinsey Locke

In the show's first season, Kinsey wasn't the most likable character. She fluttered from boy crush to boy crush and took away her fear with the help of the Head Key, which made her act selfishly many times. In the second season though, Kinsey tries to make up for her mistakes.

Kinsey has been through a lot, and when she finds out the truth about Gabe, she finally starts becoming the hero she needs to be. She, quite literally, finds her wings and transforms into someone who will no longer be a slave to her fears but would rather use them to become stronger. It is that mindset that allows Kinsey to become a more likable character as the series progresses.

6 Tyler Locke

Tyler was not always the best big brother to Kinsey and Bode. Dismissive of Bode and self-centered at times, Tyler was not a very reliable person in Locke & Key's first season. Even when he finally became aware of the keys, Tyler made some questionable choices, like telling people about it as if it wasn't a big deal.

It is mostly through his relationship with Jackie that Tyler became more likable, and in the show's second season he appears more cautious and responsible with the keys. Given that Tyler has already lost his dad, the tragedy that he faces when the key he made doesn't manage to save Jackie gives his character another trauma he didn't need, and it will be interesting to see how that affects him in the show's next season.

5 Duncan Locke

Uncle Dunk has been through a lot over the years, and the fact that he has lost all of his memories about magic is a tragic aspect of this character. For most of the first two seasons of Locke & Key, Duncan feels pretty helpless, but once his memories of the magical Keys and everything that has to do with them are restored, Duncan gets to really be himself.

There were times where Duncan was not likable (like when he shoved Bode out of his room) but that was because he was in pain and didn't understand what was happening to him. Most of the time, Duncan is good guy and a great uncle, someone the Locke kids can count on and a person who is ready to do what it takes to protect his family.

4 Jackie Veda

Tyler's girlfriend, Jackie, is a sweet young woman who just wants to be able to live her life without trouble. Her relationship with Tyler had a complicated start and the two didn't really start dating until the end of Locke & Key's first season. In season 2, however, viewers found Tyler and Jackie in a much better place where they seemed to have built a solid relationship, although Tyler did have an issue with the fact that Jackie didn't want to hold on to the memory of magic.

When Jackie became possessed by a demon, things went sideways for her. She had been a very likable character, always trying to be a good friend and to do the right thing, but for a few episodes she became one of Gabe's minions and lost herself. She got to be back to her old self briefly when Tyler attempted to save her, but it didn't last and she died.

3 Nina Locke

Nina has been through a lot, from the loss of her husband to the loss of her friends, Joe and Ellie. She is a recovering alcoholic who wants nothing more than to ensure her children are happy, and she always puts them and their needs first.

Nina is a good mom, but she suffers from the fact that she doesn't quite understand what goes on around her in Matheson since she cannot remember magic. When, at the end of season 2, Bode offers to help her remember, it opens up many possibilities for Nina's character in season 3 of Locke & Key, and it would not be surprising if the likability of her character changes in the future based on that new knowledge.

2 Scot Cavendish

Scot is a good friend, a good boyfriend, and overall a good person. It's hard not to like Scot because he is always trying to be there for others and to support Kinsey. Ever since she arrived in Matheson, Scot has been there for her.

He's got the British charm and he is funny. He gets along well with the other Lockes, and he has a solid friend group he can count on. Scot is a very likable character and, now that Gabe is no longer in the way of his relationship with Kinsey, he will have more time to really show what he is made of.

1 Bode Locke

Bode became a fan favorite very early in the show. When Locke and Key started and Uncle Dunk taught young Bode that flipping somebody off means "Aloha," everyone laughed and became attached to the kid. He is the one who first finds the magical keys, and he often is the one who uses them with the most care.

Granted, Bode is actually the reason why Dodge was freed, but it is only because he always means well and always wants to help. Although he is growing up, Bode is still the most likable character on Locke & Key, and thus mainly because he is the most innocent of the Lockes.
