Players can breed Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Shiny Pokémon officially made their debut back in generation two with Pokémon Gold and Silver and have remained a popular staple in the franchise ever since. Shiny Pokémon are extremely rare, different-colored variants of Pokémon that already exist. Their stats will be identical to the basic form, and they basically do everything the normal Pokémon can do. The real thrill is finding one of these creatures because of how rare they are. One of the best ways to get Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is through breeding.
Players will be able to find the Day Care Center in Solceon Town. Here, players can drop off two Pokémon. If they are compatible, the Pokémon will give players an Egg that they can hatch. Breeding makes it easier to manage a single Pokémon without having to worry about other encounters. There's a way to increase the Shiny Odds through Breeding, which makes it easier to get Shiny Pokémon than it is while Shiny Hunting.
The odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are 1/4096. However, players can bring these odds down to 1/693 using International Breeding. Using this method, if one of the breeding Pokémon is from another country, it will increase the Shiny odds significantly. Typically, this should be a foreign Ditto. This method is also sometimes known as the 'Masuda Method,' after Game Freak director Junichi Masuda. The fastest way to obtain a foreign Ditto is through the GTS. Alternatively, players can reach out to a friend to see if they have an international Ditto.
The reason players should aim for an international Ditto versus other international Pokémon is that Ditto can breed with every Pokémon except the legendaries. This makes it much more useful for breeding a wide variety of Shiny Pokémon.
Players can place this Ditto with the Pokémon whose Shiny form they want to obtain. Eventually, there will be an Egg at the Day Care Center. This is when the Shiny-breeding Masuda Method in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl begins.
There is no guarantee that a Shiny Pokémon will emerge from one of these eggs. The odds have only been increased to 1/693, which is still fairly low. To make the process faster, players could find a Pokémon with either the Flame Body or Magma Armor ability. These abilities will cut the number of steps required to hatch an Egg in half. Shiny Breeding requires a lot of patience, as the process can last for minutes to potential months depending on the player's luck.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
