The grapple gun in Battlefield 2042 can be used on smoke and tornadoes, suggesting that some glitches in EA’s new FPS are fun rather than frustrating. While Battlefield 2042 already boasts an impressive community filled with millions of players, the game isn’t without its flaws. From a lengthy list of missing features to extreme gameplay glitches like missing loadouts and revive bugs, Battlefield 2042 has a long way to go before it can redeem itself from its widely-panned launch and truly take its place as a solid installment in the Battlefield series.
DICE and EA have promised to improve the game through a robust roadmap of updates and patches. The development team already released update #2, which nerfed helicopters in Battlefield 2042 and addressed weapon bloom, among other gameplay issues. Future Battlefield 2042 updates promise to rebalance many of the guns, as well as improve server stability for all platforms. Until the game is in tip-top shape, though, players will likely continue to uncover new bugs and glitches in EA’s FPS. But some glitches aren’t as frustrating as others, and could be seen as a fun detail in an otherwise chaotic game.
As reported by PCGamesN, it was discovered that the Battlefield 2042 grapple gun can be used on smoke and tornadoes in a glitch that can be considered more fun than game-breaking. The hilarious glitch revolves around Specialist MacKay’s grapple gun, which can actually be used to grapple onto smoke from detonated smoke grenades. Reddit user JedJungle tested out the glitch, using the grapple gun to grapple onto smoke and soar through the sky without a building nearby. Another player, who goes by EKubus on YouTube, accidentally grappled onto a tornado in Battlefield 2042, which was outside the map at the time. The bug caused their specialist to fly across the map as the grapple pulled them out of bounds.
The specialists in Battlefield 2042 each have unique abilities that set them apart from one another. Specialist Angel can revive any teammate, while Boris can unleash his automatic turret, the SG-36 Sentry System, that engages enemies and helps defend objectives. Other specialists excel at performing specific roles, such as Casper as a recon character or Dozer on offense. But Specialist Mackay offers the handy grappling hook gadget, which makes him incredibly mobile. Mackay’s grapple gun works like the grappling hook in Halo Infinite, by attaching to surfaces and subsequently retracting to pull a player towards the object. It turns out Mackay’s grappling hook can be used on more than just surfaces, with smoke and tornadoes being added to the list.
The grapple gun glitch doesn’t necessarily break the game like other Battlefield 2042 bugs, however, it can be used for some fun trick shots or even a well-timed escape if used properly. Deploying a smoke grenade and then flying through it with the grapple gun can be a good way to move away from a firefight. Accidentally grappling onto a tornado might be frustrating, however, though it could provide a much-needed reprieve from the chaos of the battlefield, or at the very least, some comic relief for players who are still waiting for DICE to patch the game.
Battlefield 2042 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
