The official trailer for Warner Brothers' new christmas movie, 8-BIT Christmas, has been released. The film will follow ten year old Jake, as he sets out on a quest to get the coolest Christmas gift a kid could get in the 1980s: a Nintendo Entertainment System. 8-BIT Christmas is helmed by Goon director Michael Dowse, and written by Kevin Jakubowski.
Today, Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for 8-BIT Christmas on YouTube. The first big reveal that the new trailer offers, is that the story will be structured around an adult Jake (who will be played by none other than Neil Patrick Harris) telling the thrilling tale of his childhood quest to his daughter. Through the conversations between the two, the audience can get the sense that the whole story Older Jake tells is not necessarily accurate, as Jake changes elements of the story to better suit his daughter. The trailer then gives an exciting overview of Jake and his friend's journey to buy their own NES after his father (played by Steve Zahn) announces that he is not allowed to have one for Christmas. The trailer is packed with '80s nostalgia, from "The Final Countdown" playing in the background, to Pantera and Iron Maiden shirts, to retro title design, and of course, the NES itself. Boasting that 8-BIT Christmas is brought to audiences from the same studio as Elf, the film promises to be a fun romp for all ages, even those who didn't grow up in the '80s.
