Even though they are set in vastly different universes, both Squid Game and Game of Thrones explore the issues of power and just how far people will go in their efforts to survive and to get ahead.
Though the characters that populate Westeros vary widely in terms of their political acumen and abilities, to say nothing of their skills at judging others there’s no question that many of them would make formidable contestants on the Squid Game, though only a few would be very likely to ultimately emerge as victors.
10 Jon
Jon Snow is one of the series’ most noble characters, just like his (presumed) father Ned Stark and, as is so often the case with the Starks, this nobility gets in his way. Thus, even though he’s a good man who does his best to defend Westeros against various threats, most notably the White Walkers, he simply doesn’t have what it takes to win the Game of Thrones, which means that he would also be eliminated fairly early in the Squid Game.
9 Cersei
Cersei Lannister repeatedly shows that she is one of the most ruthless people in Westeros, getting worse and worse as time goes on, as she shows most clearly when she destroys the Great Sept of Baelor and everyone in it (including her own nobility). This means that she would probably be able to excel at the Squid Game, and there’s a faint possibility that she would be able to win. Unfortunately for her, it’s also true that her arrogance gets the better of her, so she could easily be eliminated by someone who knows how to exploit that aspect of her personality.
8 Jaime
If Cersei is the Lannister sibling with the political ruthlessness, Jaime is the one with the military muscle, and even when he only has one hand he is still a formidable soldier. He has a mind for war strategy, so he’d probably excel at some aspects of the Squid Game.
However, all it would take would be someone to threaten his sister and he would lose whatever gains that he managed to make. He might make it somewhat far, but his own nobility would probably undo him and keep him from being the victory.
7 Samwell
It’s very easy for many people to underrate Samwell, because he is so clearly not a warrior and because he tends to exude vulnerability. However, as he shows time and again throughout the series, he also has a shrewd political mind, and it’s precisely because people underestimate him that he is able to bring great things to pass (including, most notably, his elevation of Jon Snow to the position of Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch). He would use his skills to do very well at the Squid Game.
6 Daenerys
The problem with Dany is that she tends to think that she knows better than everyone else and that her vision of the world is the one that everyone should follow. She knows how power works, and she would be able to leverage that in a competition like the Squid Game. Unfortunately, what proves true in the series would also prove true in that other competition, and others would be able to exploit her many weaknesses in order to keep her from winning.
5 Varys
Like Samwell, Varys is one of those characters that it’s very easy for others to underestimate, in his case because he is a eunuch and thus looked at less than a man. However, his great skill is as a manipulator of events, and he does more than almost anyone else to see Dany rise to the throne. As a result, he would be able to do very well at the Squid Game, both because he can see the small details as well as the bigger picture, and he’s not afraid to kill when he thinks it would advance his goal.
4 Tyrion
Tyrion, like Jon Snow, is fundamentally good and a decent person, and he genuinely wants what’s best for Westeros. He is also very skilled and smart when it comes to politics, and like Varys he has the ability to see both the details and the bigger picture. Though he might be a bit hamstrung by his own sense of morals, given his ability to come up with brilliant plans he would probably be able to recognize what needed to be done in terms of winning the Squid Game, and he would set out to do it as efficiently as possible.
3 Tywin
Of all of the members of the Lannister family, Tywin is the most ruthless and the most skilled at political maneuverings. He’s the one, after all, who managed to bring about the Red Wedding, one of the most devastating and bloody affairs in the history of the Seven Kingdoms.
He would be able to understand what needed to be done in order to triumph at the Squid Game, and he would have absolutely no hesitation at murdering anyone that stood in his way.
2 Sansa
When the series begins, Sansa is an idealistic young woman who truly believes in the beauty of chivalry and courtly life. As the series goes on, she becomes a powerful ruler whose softness has been crushed out of her by a cruel world. In fact, she even ends up as the Queen in the North. As a result, she shows that she has the personality traits that a person has to have if they want to win the Squid Game, and she wouldn’t hesitate to do whatever was necessary to ensure that she survived and won.
1 Arya
Of all of the characters that appear in Game of Thrones, Arya is one of the best. Like her sister, she grows harder and more sinister as it goes on, until she is a ruthless killing machine. Given that she was able to kill no less a person than the Night King himself, it seems pretty clear that she would have what it takes to win the Squid Game, hands down. She knows just how to fight to win, and she’s not afraid of using people to get what she wants.
