Ahead of the scheduled appearance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at DC FanDome, Rocksteady Studios has shared the first screenshot of the game's protagonists. Official art of the Suicide Squad members had already been revealed on Twitter, but the latest picture gives fans their first glimpse of the in-game characters. Much of the game has been kept under wraps so far, but Rocksteady has released a steady stream of small details to keep players excited for the upcoming title.
Instead of the DCEU, the Suicide Squad game takes place in the Arkhamverse, the same continuity as Rocksteady's earlier Batman: Arkham series. The entire squad appears to be made up of four members: Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot, all of whom will be playable in the final release. As the game's title implies, the plot of the game will involve eliminating members of the Justice League, including Superman who can be seen killing civilians under the control of Braniac in the game's first trailer. Other details about Suicide Squad are scarce for the moment, but eager fans can now see what the characters will look like in the game.
The screenshot came from a tweet by Sefton Hill, the Creative Director for Rocksteady Studios. It shows all four members of the Suicide Squad together and teases more reveals to come. "Can't wait for you to see more of the story and the weird and wonderful reprobates you’ll be teaming up with," Hill says in the caption, suggesting that more DC characters might make an appearance over the course of the game. The upcoming DC FanDome event could confirm more characters in the Suicide Squad game.
While little has been revealed so far about the gameplay of the title, it is confirmed that it will take place in Metropolis, hometown of Superman, and allow players to explore the map freely in an open world. It will also be much more of a shooter than Rocksteady's previous Batman games, which isn't surprising considering the different fighting styles of the games' protagonists.
For a title slated to release next year, not much about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is known yet. That's likely to change based on the teaser footage promised for DC FanDome, but the new screenshot offers fans one of the first opportunities to actually see what the game will look like. With Rocksteady's solid track record and the fresh, interesting plot and characters of the game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing titles of 2022.
