Pokémon GO Might Add Pokémon Form Changes In a Future Update

Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, has hinted that Pokémon form changes may be coming to the game in the future. The alternate reality mobile title lets players battle and capture virtual Pokémon by exploring the real world. Niantic continuously updates Pokémon GO with new events and content, ensuring that fans constantly have new features to explore.

Throughout the month of October, a number of special events will be held within the virtual monster collection simulator. Many of these events, such as Research Breakthroughs, raids and Spotlight Hours, will tie into the fall season by spotlighting Ghost-type Pokémon. On October 8 a special event was also held which tied into the release of Pokémon The Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, a Netflix animated film focusing on the Mythical Pokémon Zarude. A special Pokémon GO Halloween event, beginning on October 15, will add even more creepy content to the game.

A report from Eurogamer reveals that form changes may soon be added to Pokémon GO. Throughout the beloved franchise, many creatures have alternate forms that they can transition into under certain conditions. For example, Burmy changes form based on its environment while Deerling changes form based on the four seasons. Recently the Pokémon Furfrou was added to Pokémon GO, with the doglike creature possessing multiple forms it can adopt. Eurogamer asked developers from Niantic if they had plans to introduce more transforming Pokémon in future updates. The developers were evasive about the feature, stressing that they had nothing to announce at the time, but mentioned that the team at Niantic is actively looking into the possibility and might have more news soon.

Pokémon GO has received an abundance of new content, including additional Pokémon, since its launch in 2016. This ongoing evolution has allowed the game to maintain a loyal playerbase, and a competitive scene has begun to grow as a consequence. A recent Pokémon GO Twitch Rivals event saw popular streamers face each other in Pokémon battles. The event, which began on October 13, placed streamers into teams using brand-new accounts and tasked them with catching Pokémon as quickly as possible. This assembled roster of monsters was then used in battle amongst factions.

As Pokémon GO continues to grow, the title has adopted more of the franchise's more interesting concepts. Form changes help to make new Pokémon more unique, and add a new level of depth to the franchise's role-playing gameplay. With Furfrou already bringing form changes into Pokémon GO, the alternate reality title is likely to implement more of these complex Pokémon in the future.
