The My Name season finale wrapped up Ji-woo’s story but left her fate ambiguous. At the end of the Netflix show’s eight-episode run, Ji-woo finally found closure in regards to her father’s murder. Throughout her journey in the South Korean crime thriller series, Ji-woo was committed to fulfilling one goal, and now that this chapter in her life is over, her future is uncertain.
For most of this season, there was a feeling that Han So-hee’s Ji-woo may not make it out of My Name alive, especially when she became enemies of the entire police force and a target of Choi Mu-jin’s drug ring. Even if survival was possible, it didn’t look like there was a good chance of her getting a happy ending. After all, she was a gang member who had infiltrated the police and betrayed her fellow officers. Plus, Ji-woo was clearly willing to risk everything to get revenge. And despite receiving multiple knife wounds in her final battle with Mu-jin (Park Hee-soon), Ji-woo managed to walk away in one piece. A scene with her paying her respects to Pil-do (Ahn Bo-hyun) and Dong-hoon (Yoon Kyung-ho) at their memorials confirmed that she didn’t die of blood loss.
While Netflix’s My Name, with its English dub and subtitles, does reveal that Ji-woo survived her revenge mission, it didn’t offer an explanation about what comes next for her character. Since My Name was meant to be a one-season story and doesn’t have a high probability of getting a second season since it resolved its main storyline, what comes next for Ji-woo is open to speculation. As for what she may do now, her two most obvious options are turning herself in or going on the run from the police. After finding out the truth about Ji-woo’s father, Kim Sang-ho’s Cha Gi-ho appeared to be more understanding about her predicament, but what power he has as the head of the Narcotics division is limited, meaning that there aren’t any characters in My Name who can keep her out of prison. It’s true that she deceived the police and willingly interfered in their efforts to capture Mu-jin, so it’s hard to imagine her being let off the hook.

Ji-woo could try to leave the city and remain a fugitive, but an earlier conversation with Pil-do could be a sign that she’ll accept her punishment. Shortly before his death, Pil-do told Ji-woo that she needed to turn herself in and that he would support her during her incarceration. At the time at least, she seemed inclined to go along with his wishes. Since this is what Pil-do wanted, it’s possible that out of loyalty to him, she’ll surrender herself to the police.
Regardless of what decision she makes, Ji-woo’s future after My Name’s ending feels bleak. In her final fight with Mu-jin, she admitted to wanting to “live like a human being”, but had given up on that since he killed Pil-do, the only person she “could lean on”. According to Ji-woo, it was due to this tragedy that she was willing to become a “monster” by killing Mu-jin. With the sad way My Name left things for Ji-woo, either path she takes will likely be filled with hardship.
