Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Every Villain In Insomniac's Game Universe Now

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is poised to bring Venom and Kraven into Spider-Man's newest adventure, adding to an impressive roster of villains already including in Insomniac's universe. Both Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales have been huge hits for Insomniac, capturing the essence of the source material and featuring fun gameplay to boot. Both games were further enhanced by the great villains that Peter and Miles faced in battle.

Finding the perfect villains for both Spider-Man titles should have been a relatively easy task for Insomniac, considering the depth of enemies that Spider-Man has faced over the years. Spider-Man probably has one of the biggest lineups of villains in the history of comic book characters, and many of these foes - like Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin - maintain an iconic reputation. The upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2 game should see even more of the wall-crawler's rogue gallery enter the fray, as Insomniac has barely scratched the surface of villains for Spider-Man to face.

The two Insomniac Spider-Man games still feature a reasonable number of villains that both Peter and Miles face, and the developer has already revealed a couple more enemies set to factor into their universe. Even for players that have already experienced the games, the long list of foes can be difficult to remember across both games. This is every villain featured in Insomniac's Spider-Man universe so far, and the upcoming Spider-Man 2 game villains we well.

[Warning: Spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man & Spider-Man: Miles Morales below.]

Norman Osborn hasn't assumed his alternate persona as the Green Goblin in Insomniac's Spider-Man games yet, but that doesn't stop Norman from causing problems for Spider-Man. Norman's obsession with the Devil's Breath serum drives the villainous motivations of both Mister Negative and Doctor Octopus, and Norman is also responsible for bringing the hard-nosed Silver Sable and her mercenary forces to the city. Post-credit scenes in both Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales show Norman's dedication to curing his son Harry has led him to allow an unknown symbiote substance to interact with Harry, further cementing that the eldest Osborn isn't exactly working with the purest of intentions.

When Martin Li was only seven years old, his parents took him to Oscorp in the Spider-Man universe for medical consultation concerning an unknown disease ravaging his body. Norman Osborn had Li injected with the Devil's Breath serum he was developing, generating an unexpected reaction that granted the boy dark powers and caused an explosion that killed Martin's parents. Mister Negative spends a large amount of Marvel's Spider-Man using his powers/Inner Demons criminal organization to satisfy his vendetta against Norman, but Spider-Man is able to defeat Li and the villain is sent to the Raft at the end of the game, meaning he could appear as a Spider-Man 2 game villian.

Doctor Octavius starts Marvel's Spider-Man as the boss and mentor to Peter Parker, but eventually dissolves into the villainous Doc Ock and plans on holding Norman Osborn accountable for his involvement with the Devil's Breath treatment. Doctor Octopus breaks a handful of supervillains out of the Raft and forms the Sinister Six, commissioning them to help him attack all of Osborn's properties throughout the city, release the Devil's Breath upon the citizens, and force Osborn to admit his wrongdoings. Spider-Man is able to defeat Doc Ock in an epic battle atop Oscorp Tower at the end of Marvel's Spider-Man, and the villain has his artificial limbs taken away and is sent to be imprisoned at the Raft. However, Doc Ock could still reappear in Spider-Man 2.

Mac Gargan was turned into the mech-wearing Scorpion during an experiment unexpectedly funded by J. Jonah Jameson and went on to commit a number of crimes like robbery and kidnapping. Scorpion is also detailed as one of the first supervillains that Spider-Man encountered in his web-slinging career.

The villain serves as one of the members of the Sinister Six after Doc Ock breaks him out of the Raft in Marvel's Spider-Man. Both Rhino and Scorpion team up to take on Spider-Man near the end of the game, but the two end up fighting each other, being trapped in a shipping container and sent back to prison, meaning they could still be around for Spider-Man 2.

Herman Schultz became Shocker after using his impressive skills as an inventor to create a pair of gauntlets that release shockwaves, using the invention to become a notorious burglar and facing off against Spider-Man multiple times. The events of Marvel's Spider-Man see Shocker be approached by Mister Negative's Inner Demons and pressured into robbing banks for them. Spider-Man catches Shocker after he commits a robbery and brings him into custody, but the Inner Demons break him out of prison and sends him to rob another bank. Spider-Man defeats the villain once more and learns about his involvement with Mister Negative, and Shocker is sent to the Raft to be more securely locked up.

Aleksei Sytsevich became known as Rhino after an experimental combat suit became grafted to his skin, and faced off against Spider-Man multiple times until the webhead was able to send him to the Raft for imprisonment. Doc Ock recruits Rhino into the Sinister Six by offering to help him shed both his suit and bad reputation as a criminal, but Rhino is ultimately defeated and sent back to the Raft after his team-up with Scorpion goes poorly. Rhino is also in Spider-Man: Miles Morales in the opening moments after he breaks out of the Raft, and later on after Roxxon hires him as an enforcer and equips him with new armor to protect against Miles' powers.

The superhumanly strong Kingpin only physically stars in Marvel's Spider-Man for a brief section of the game, serving as the tutorial boss battle as Spider-Man works with the police to arrest the villain. Kingpin is defeated and sent off to the Raft, but his criminal influence and hired thugs maintain a constant thorn in Spider-Man's side throughout the rest of the game. Kingpin also briefly makes an appearance in Miles Morales via a phone call between Wilson Fisk and the young Miles, with Kingpin issuing threats toward Miles after he stops Fisk's nefarious plans for criminal activity in Harlem.

Adrian Toomes was an electronics engineer that decided to turn to a life of crime as the Vulture, using high-tech wings to move at great speeds. His criminal motivations led him to fight Spider-Man at least two dozen times, and he was ultimately beaten and sent to the Raft for the rest of his life.

In Marvel's Spider-Man, Vulture is convinced by Doc Ock to join the Sinister Six after Doc offers to save him from the spinal cancer caused by his mechanical wings. Vulture teams up with Electro in a battle against Spider-Man, but the villain is defeated and arrested once again. The Vulture makes a holographic appearance in Spider-Man: Miles Morales during a training mission set up for Miles, with Peter providing humorous dialogue for the villain.

Max Dillon gained the ability to absorb electricity and blast it toward his foes after an unidentified accident, and he used his newfound abilities to become the super-criminal Electro. He makes his appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man after Doc Ock enlists him into the Sinister Six by promising to help Electro achieve his mission to transform himself into pure, living energy. Electro is eventually defeated by Spider-Man during his team-up with Vulture, and Spider-Man leaves the villain webbed up for the police to take back to the Raft.

Silver Sable appears in Marvel's Spider-Man as Norman Osborn's personal security detail, and the nature of her and Spider-Man's relationship starts off antagonistic as she places him on her target list after the Sinister Six and other prisoners escape from the Raft. They eventually reach a truce when Sable realizes Spider-Man is trying to stop Doctor Octopus, Mister Negative, and all of the other supervillains. After going back to her home country of Symkaria at the end of Insomniac's game, Silver Sable returns in The City That Never Sleeps DLC to help Spider-Man reclaim the stolen Sable tech that Hammerhead stole to arm his mafia, and she could reappear in Spider-Man 2.

Harnessing the ability to mimic the attack patterns of his foes, Taskmaster shows up as a minor antagonist in Marvel's Spider-Man to observe and potentially recruit Spider-Man into a mysterious organization. Taskmaster sets up a number of challenges across New York that tests Spider-Man's physical abilities, allowing him to ambush the webslinger and utilize his skillset against him. After Spider-Man defeats Taskmaster a second time, the mercenary reveals the reason he's been following Spider-Man and disappears into thin air to potentially show up again as a Spider-Man 2 game villain.

Tombstone serves as a minor antagonist in Marvel's Spider-Man, with the nearly-invulnerable biker gang leader being hired by Mister Negative to build an APC vehicle for him. Spider-Man learns in side missions that Tombstone has been using the money sent to him by Mister Negative to obtain the same chemicals that grant him his powers and creating a formula called Grave Dust to give members of his gang the same effects. Spider-Man is able to create a counter-drug to Grave Dust and uses it on Tombstone during an epic battle, restoring his normalcy and allowing Spider-Man to defeat him.

Hammerhead appears exclusively in Marvel's Spider-Man's DLC. He is perhaps best known for having a seemingly impervious skull, with a surgeon implanting a steel plate in his cranium after a near-death experience as a child. In the first game, Hammerhead attempts to bring respect back to the criminal organization (the Maggia) that he is a part of.

However, his plans become increasingly unhinged as Spider-Man, Black Cat, and others continue to get in his way. Hammerhead is finally defeated by Spider-Man and Silver Sable after the two use a laser to pierce his strong skull - and Silver Sable crashes her jet into the villain.

Screwball features as a minor character in Insomniac's Spider-Man universe as a live-streaming criminal that is obsessed with the number of social media followers that she has. She uses Spider-Man to boost her follower count, tricking him into completing dangerous challenges while she streams his acts of heroism on her channel. Spider-Man and Miles are able to take down Screwball in The City That Never Sleeps DLC, where she is left to the authorities and supposedly taken to jail, although she may return as a Spider-Man 2 game villain.

Black Cat is a master thief that once had a romantic relationship and partnership with Peter Parker, but things ended and she left New York after Peter discovered she was robbing again. Black Cat heavily plays into the DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man, showing up to steal data drives for Hammerhead and the Maggia to keep the villain from killing her son (who might be Spider-Man's kid). It's later revealed that Black Cat's "son" was a trick to get Spider-Man to help her steal Hammerhead's personal drive, with Black Cat giving Hammerhead duplicates of the drives so she could steal the Maggia's wealth for herself. Hammerhead learns of Black Cat's intentions and seemingly kills her in an explosion, but she appears a few days later to give Spider-Man a drive that will help him defeat Hammerhead once and for all.

The version of the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a far cry from the elderly man introduced in the comics, with Insomniac opting to link the character to Miles by way of his female childhood friend Phin Mason. After losing her brother Rick to an exploding Nuform reactor that Simon Krieger trapped him with, Phin joined the rebellious Underground and provided them with new biotech weaponry.

She is dubbed the Tinkerer and provides the group a mission to take down Roxxon and get revenge on Simon Krieger. The Tinkerer's story comes to a tragic end when Phin selflessly sacrifices her life to save Harlem by flying Miles high above the city to allow Miles to release absorbed energy from a dangerous Nuform reactor. Because of this, it's unlikely the Tinkerer will show up in Spider-Man 2 unless it's via flashbacks.

Aaron Davis is the criminal known as the Prowler and uncle of Miles Morales, but Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales starts out with Aaron as a subway worker trying to put his criminal past behind him. At some point in the game, Aaron reprises his role as the Prowler and starts working for Roxxon with the stipulation that Simon Krieger will not harm Miles at any point. The Prowler eventually ends up turning his back on Roxxon and helps Miles save Harlem, even turning himself in at the end of the game and releasing all of his evidence against Roxxon and Krieger in exchange for a reduced sentence.

Serving as the primary antagonist in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Simon Krieger is the head of research and development of the shady Roxxon Corporation. Krieger was responsible for the development of Nuform energy at Roxxon, ignoring warnings about the volatile nature of the resource to further increase his own personal wealth. The Roxxon representative committed several egregious acts along the way, effectively condemning Phin's brother to his death, torturing Miles against Prowler's wishes, and changing the spec on a supercharged Nuform reactor to destroy all of Harlem. Krieger is arrested at the end of Spider-Man: Miles Morales after Aaron Davis exposes Krieger for all of his crimes, so he may show up as a Spider-Man 2 game villain too.

During the first official trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 shown during Sony's PlayStation Showcase, Venom was officially revealed as one of the new characters that will feature in Peter and Miles' new adventure. The involvement of Venom in Insomniac's Spider-Man universe has been teased heavily in the previous games, with post-credit scenes setting the stage for Harry Osborn to be Venom's host. It's unclear whether Venom will be a force of relative good or evil in the new game, and it will be exciting to see what Insomniac chooses to do with the character when the sequel arrives in 2023.

Kraven The Hunter hasn't received an official physical appearance from Insomniac yet, but the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer featured a voiceover from the expertly skilled hunter. The Russian-born villain appears to be looking for a worthy opponent in the upcoming game, with hopes that either Peter or Miles will be able to give him a challenge. It will be exciting to see how Kraven's presence will influence Marvel's Spider-Man 2's story, as well as any other villains that Insomniac may intend to include in the sequel.
