How To Respec Characters In Diablo 2: Resurrected | Screen Rant

Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

Diablo 2: Resurrected gives players a lot of freedom when it comes to character class builds and abilities. There are optimal playstyles, but it's possible to find success with a variety of skills, stats, and gear. If players do find themselves with a build they don't like, the option to respec a Diablo 2: Resurrected character lets them reallocate their stats and skills.

For players who want to rework their character for fun or to try out a top-tier build like the Frozen Orb Sorceress, Diablo 2: Resurrected includes the option to respec once per difficulty - i.e., up to three times - at no cost. This makes it fairly simple to reset a character's skills, though doing so after the third time can be a long and tiresome process.

Once per difficulty level (Normal, Nightmare, and Hell), players can respec by visiting Akara in town. This option becomes available after completing the first quest in Act 1, Den of Evil, so it's quite simple to access; subsequent respecs are not.

If players have already used all of their Diablo 2: Resurrection respec chances with Akara, they'll need to craft a Token of Absolution using the Horadric Cube, which is obtained in Act 2. Crafting it requires four rare essences dropped by the Act Bosses. These items only drop when playing on Hell difficulty, so players on Normal or Nightmare will need to either start over or increase the difficulty to get a free respec from Akara.

  • Twisted Essence of Suffering - dropped by Andariel in Act 1 and Duriel in Act 2
  • Charged Essence of Hatred - dropped by Mephisto in Act 3
  • Burning Essence of Terror - dropped by Diablo in Act 4
  • Festering Essence of Destruction - dropped by Baal in Act 5

The drop rate for these items is low, so players will likely have to defeat each boss multiple times. Unfortunately, if a character needs a respec, it is likely because their build needs to be better, so defeating the bosses may be difficult. With Diablo 2: Resurrected's expanded shared stash change, however, players can use a different character to gather the supplies, then respec the other one once they have everything collected.
