Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak-Biermann's 24-year-old daughter is recovering from a double jaw surgery to correct an overbite and TMJ. Brielle was introduced to reality fans when she made a cameo on her mother's Bravo show in 2008, at just 10 years old. Since then, she has also made appearances on Don't Be Tardy, a show that follows the daily lives of her entire family. Though the series has run for eight seasons, Bravo announced its cancellation in May 2021.
Brielle's candid photos and explanation come shortly after the young reality star opened up on Andy Cohen about the pressures she feels to look perfect while growing up in front of the reality TV cameras. Brielle discussed how many fans accuse her of getting plastic surgery on social media, but they often fail to realize she's just growing up and maturing and faces change during that process. While Brielle was confident she hasn't gone under the knife, she did admit to getting lip fillers throughout the years.
Though Brielle has now gone under the knife, she's getting ahead of the cosmetic rumors by telling fans on social media the operation was needed to correct her TMJ and an overbite that was affecting her day-to-day lifestyle. "Sooooo... I had double jaw surgery on August 23 to correct my TMJ & 9mm over jet overbite," she began. "This was NOT for aesthetics, but for quality of life. I sucked my thumb til I was 9ishhh which made the roof of my mouth suuuuuper narrow and my excessive overbite cause my teeth to have no contact whatsoever." Brielle, who had contacted COVID-19 at one point, continued to explain that it was really hard for her to take a bite of pizza or try to bite through an onion on a burger because she had to use her tongue to chew, which mostly resulted in choking every time she ate. The young reality star also blamed her lisp to her overbite.
In Brielle's long post, she also mentioned that she was "so scared" and "dreading this surgery fearing the worst of the worst," but her positive mindset and strong support system got her through it. "I got thru the first two weeks, which are supposed to be the hardest, easy breezy," she said. "I already feel more aligned and can breathe way better, especially at night when I would snore and have to breathe thru my mouth." Brielle added she got braces in November, which saved her teeth from cracking. Though she was embarrassed to have braces at an adult age, she is "so thankful" she did because she's able to eat full foods again. Since the surgery, the reality star has been eating through a syringe on a liquid diet including soup, smoothies and blended pasta. Her excitement is growing and she's about three months away from finally being able to bite into a slice of pizza.
Brielle's photographs of her post-operation look intense and painful. In the comments section, her mother called her the "toughest cookie" she knows. Kim, along with the rest of the Real Housewives of Atlanta fanbase are all very proud of Brielle's candid photographs and bravery to take her health into her own hands.
