MCU: Shang-Chi Characters, Ranked By Likelihood To Survive The Hunger Games

The Marvel Cinematic Universe added a few more powerful characters to the series with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The movie sees Shang-Chi battle Wenwu for the command of the Ten Rings weapon in a story that also features the interdimensional village of Ta Lo and powerful sorcerers like Wong.

One of the best ways to gauge the strength levels of superhero characters is by speculating how they will fare in the Hunger Games. The battle arena in that series features numerous challenges of their own, and combatants have to rely on strategy to survive. Since most of the Shang-Chi characters have superpowers, it’s interesting to consider their chances in this unforgiving gladiatorial battle.

9 Trevor Slattery

Although Trevor is easily among the most likable characters in Shang-Chi, he possesses next to no survival skills for the Hunger Games. The only thing he did of note during the conflict was to play dead, which worked well enough as nobody bothered to attack him.

However, the Hunger Games don’t end until only one participant is left alive, and those who attempt to cut corners are forced to fight. Trevor could conceal himself for some time but it’s a guarantee he will have to face the last combatant and this is where he will die.

8 Katy

Katy is right at the top for the bravest Shang-Chi characters as she never backed down throughout the story even without the benefit of powers. She was somewhat like Katniss Everdeen due to her master with the bow and arrow but Katy will still not last long in the Hunger Games.

This comes down to her lack of experience, as Katy was prone to exposing her position when fighting, and another well-placed combatant can shoot her down. Katy would be completely outclassed in a close-quarters battle and her bravery will be her undoing as she’d most likely go down swinging rather than flee to fight later.

7 Razor Fist

Razor Fist would do pretty well in a Hunger Games arena comprised of average combatants, where he would be a favorite to win with his pure strength and weaponized arm. An arena with the Shang-Chi is a different scenario, and Razor Fist just doesn’t possess the finesse in combat that the others do.

He did well enough to contend with the main character and his allies but was always beaten due to their superior martial arts skills. Even in a normal Hunger Games competition, Razor Fist would be like Cato in that he would get cocky without giving consideration to smart opponents using tactics to defeat him.

6 Xialing

Xialing showed her combat mastery when she took on Shang-Chi, but the latter did pretty well considering he was holding back his punches. Xialing had one of the best story arcs in Shang-Chi, one in which she revealed she learned how to fight on her own and in the club she owned.

This will actually work against her since Xialing isn’t well-versed in no-holds-barred battles where anything goes. In the climactic confrontation with the Dweller-in-Darkness, Xialing was having troubles before Shang-Chi rescued her, and a Hunger Games arena will be tough for her because there are no rules to tie her opponents down.

5 Ying Nan

Ying Nan seemed to be unbeatable when first introduced, going so far as to make short work of Shang-Chi. She has the mastery in combat along with the powers from Ta Lo in her favor, which makes her a strong contender for victory.

What goes against her favor is her showing in the final fight in which Ying Nan didn’t appear to be anything spectacular. This showed that she can be overwhelmed when facing large numbers, and the Hunger Games arena always sees the combatants pursue the strong ones first. Ying Nan is good in one-on-one fights, but she doesn’t seem as skilled when a battle situation is at hand.

4 Ying Li

If just her position in Ta Lo is considered, Ying Li would have been an easy winner. However, the movie revealed that she gave up her powers and was killed when Wenwu’s enemies attacked. Although she was strong enough to take down multiple men on her own, she was ultimately eliminated.

Much like her sister, Ying Li will have the same issue in the Hunger Games of being overwhelmed by her enemies. Along with that, she isn’t the best when it comes to improvising in a sudden fight, and this may work against her. Still, Ying Nan’s ability to take on several people at once proves she will go very far in the Hunger Games and is a good contender for the victor position.

3 Shang-Chi

Being the main protagonist does give him an edge with plot armor, but Shang-Chi is worthy of winning the Hunger Games on his own as well. It was best seen in the bus fight when Shang-Chi’s extreme agility came into play along with his quick thinking as he strategized how to take all his enemies down at the same time.

With the Ten Rings in his possession, Shang-Chi may very well be unstoppable. The weapon gives him incredible abilities of supernatural origin. The one major flaw in him is his conscience, as Shang-Chi displayed several times his inability to be cold-blooded. This could be where his enemies take advantage to eliminate him instead, because the Hunger Games shows no mercy.

2 Wenwu

Despite being defeated by Ying Li at the beginning, Wenwu didn’t go all-out in their fight due to his growing respect for her. Unlike the other characters, Wenwu had no qualms about taking lives if it benefitted him and will knock down everyone who stands in his way in the Hunger Games.

Wenwu also possessed the killer instinct required to come out on top in a fight, as he didn’t care for being honorable or noble when it came to survival. His mastery with the Ten Rings should make him an odds-on favorite and only characters with significantly stronger powers can hope to beat him.

1 Wong

Despite Wong easily being among the funniest characters in Shang-Chi, he is by no means a pushover. It’s quite the opposite. Wong should be the runaway victor, as none of the other characters can hope to match him.

Wong made the powerful Abomination look like a joke in their fight through the Sling Ring, and this is how he will win the Hunger Games as well. Wong’s ability to teleport in and out of places means he will never be in danger, and it will give him an easy way to attack his opponents. That, combined with all his reality-bending magical powers, should lead to Wong being the last man standing.
